pfft. you don't need a star registry for this. look at the sky, pick one out, and say it's yours.

yes but how do you remember which one of them all it is. You'll end up chaning stars all the time. Me, I would like to own a planet....that'd be kinda cool.

With star registry mentioned in the story its not about buying or owning a star, but naming one.

I'd rather be owned by a star.

No, what's the point? It's not like you can actually go and visit it, and no one but you will even know about its existence, unless you go and brag about having a star named you to all your friends, which would be pretty stupid anyway. It's just...not tangible enough.

No, it doesn't seem all that great to me. A planet, I would do.

Yeah, but not enough to actually buy one.

What gives them the authority to sell stars anyway? I'd say that the only way to own a star is to build an armada of spaceships, and go occupy the surrounding space.

Oh wait, nevermind: Q: Will the scientific community recognize my star name? A: No. We are a private company that provides Gift Packages. Astronomers will not recognize your name because your name is published only in our Star catalog. We periodically print a book called Your Place in the Cosmos © which lists the stars that we have named. So basically, this company is making money off suckers by saying this star will live on with your name forever. It won't. You're not getting anything. That sucks. :(

No, the stars don't belong to anyone so you can't exactly sell them. Big con.
