No way, in this instance, stuff the environment.

Do they do reusable sparkly, tinsel ones too, or is that just for the Christmas period?

Eurgh, that is the most feral idea I've seen. I'd like to see the woman willing to wash out her pad.

Also, the story kind of creeps me out. Menstruation is merely a waste product, leaving the body because it is no longer necessary. Not some "symbol of our power...to create life".

According to the testimonials on the website, many women do like to wash out their pads...

"Being more present with your menses by washing your pads can bring about a wonderful sense of self-acceptance that can extend to other aspects of your physicality. Using Lunapads enables you to be self-sufficient and to incorporate a ritual of self-care into your monthly cycle."

Hmm...haven't heard this degree of sales talk before.

They have pictures of pussycats on them? They'll be making condoms with chickens on next...

How is washing it down a drain 'honoring' it any more than throwing it in the garbage?

Anyway, sounds quite disgusting to me. (Actually, I think pads are kind of disgusting anyway, tampons are much less messy, and they're more comfortable.) While I can see the appeal of decreasing waste, for environmental reasons, I think that the 'symbol of our power as women to be able to create life' crap is silly.

looks like you get a free pool cue with them

Eww... I think i'll pass..what the hell will they come up with next
15 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Monday 6/26/06 - 5:52:55 PM EST (GMT-5)
No, I only like tampons.

Same here.

I like the environmental aspect of it but I'd have to be assured it was just as hygienic
15 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Wednesday 7/19/06 - 12:55:13 PM EST (GMT-5)
That's disgusting. No.
15 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Tuesday 8/8/06 - 1:23:34 AM EST (GMT-5)
No. That's disgusting and not hygenic at all.
15 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Saturday 8/12/06 - 1:02:44 PM EST (GMT-5)
I might, to save money, but not to symbolize my ability to give birth.
15 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Saturday 8/12/06 - 1:06:02 PM EST (GMT-5)
My wife uses those. We had already gotten used to cloth diapering our kids before she switched over to them, so after swishing the poop out of a cloth diaper in the toilet by hand, you can handle a lot of other things more easily than you'd have previously guessed.
15 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Friday 8/18/06 - 2:49:34 PM EST (GMT-5)
All the 'empowering' messages with this product sound like a huge gimmick to me.
15 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Friday 8/18/06 - 2:57:33 PM EST (GMT-5)
I would totally get those, you would probably save thousands of dollars over the years just by washing your own menstrual pads.

I don't know why some of you don't think it would be hygenic, it's not like you would use one pad for your whole period without washing it.

15 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Friday 8/18/06 - 3:03:02 PM EST (GMT-5)
Oh, I didn't read the story. My wife uses re-usable menstrual products, but not some brand-name, slogany kind. She even bought them used (but cleaned) off e-bay.
