If you had to spend every Sunday practicing archery or work your Lord's feilds 3 days a week you wouldn't say guns are detrimental to society. Nuclear weapons are more detrimental because so few governments have exclusive control over thier use.

I'd just like to say screw you all, except Boredo, for failing to answer my question. Boredo, its not the restricted ownership that makes nukes detrimental but the fact that they exist and have the potential to wipe out humanity.

The nucllear threat is so great because most people have nothing to counter it. You don't have to use nuclear weapons to make people do what you want you just have to have them. If everyone had a nuclear weapon the world would be a safer place.

How did the cold war between US and Russia engender peace? It wasn't until disarmanent treaties that the two nations became friendly. The point is, if no one had nuclear weapons the world would be a safer place.

But they do. So it is safer that everyone has them.

I'd prefer dismantling. I take it you are against disarming Saddam then. Would it be safer and cheaper and easier to arm everyone else in the region with less loss of life? Should we make public the designs and the materials so everyone could build a nuclear weapon? That seems a little reckless if you ask me.

Thanks Purp.

Well that's the current train of thought at the NRA. If everyone has a gun no one would mess with anyone. It was the same in the 60's, 70's and 80's between the superpowers with the mutual destruction theory. I lived through that and all that happened was a few cows in Chernobyl grew two heads.

I'm still not clear on your position. Should the US and other nuclear countries make nuclear materials and technology freely available to all governments?
19 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Thursday 11/14/02 - 6:36:35 AM EST (GMT-5)
Nuclear weapons
19 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Thursday 11/14/02 - 6:45:17 AM EST (GMT-5)
By the reasoning of the NRA and it's Republican supporters it would be safer to do so.
19 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Thursday 11/14/02 - 6:47:39 AM EST (GMT-5)
Bored....I'm laughing at you. BWahahahahahahahahahaha
19 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Thursday 11/14/02 - 6:49:26 AM EST (GMT-5)
Then why is Bush trying to disarm Saddam? You are avoiding my question. Do YOU think we should arm the rest of the Mideast with nuclear weapons? Not what the NRA or the Republicans alledgedly think.

It was good while it lasted wasn't it.
