A prune is not a vegetable, a cabbage is a vegetable. Frank Zappa.

Not sure if treason even fits. Violent threats against the VP and/or members of Congress aren't treason. The guy that shot Giffords wasn't charged with treason, was he?

That guy didn’t break down the doers of the capital and assault capital police to do it.

Property damage and assault. Still not treason.

Whatever, man. I don’t think your positions would line up with WWJD but you’re the one who has to live with you, not me.
And we got here after your curing the “Resist” movement and referencing cancel culture. And I say again, if someone says something that upsets ppl then there are consequences.
2 months ago - Tuesday 5/4/21 - 4:34:48 PM EST (GMT-5)
What does WWJD have to do with anything?
2 months ago - Tuesday 5/4/21 - 4:39:46 PM EST (GMT-5)
The issue I have is the 'says something that upsets people' can include pretty much anything that doesn't comply with Liberal thinking. It's about supressing opposing opinions and creating an echo chamber.
2 months ago - Tuesday 5/4/21 - 4:45:57 PM EST (GMT-5)
That would imply that the liberals control everything. That’s clearly not the case. If what someone says I find problematic, I can speak out about it, stop putting my money into their businesses, protest, etc.
if you don’t disagree with what they said, you can continue to support them in whatever way you see fit. These are often things that impact minorities.
2 months ago - Tuesday 5/4/21 - 4:48:30 PM EST (GMT-5)
As a Liberal, one would think that you would be embracing freedom of expression rather than limiting speech to stuff that doesn't 'upset people'.

2 months ago - Tuesday 5/4/21 - 5:06:54 PM EST (GMT-5)
People can express whatever the hell they want. And other ppl are totally free to express their responses to that. As a Christian, one would think that you would want people to be more careful about what the say and show love fir their fellowman as opposed to contempt.
2 months ago - Tuesday 5/4/21 - 5:20:49 PM EST (GMT-5)
Are you a Christian?

If not, you really shouldn't be trying to dictate what people should be doing 'as a Christian'.

2 months ago - Tuesday 5/4/21 - 5:24:43 PM EST (GMT-5)
Again, I'm not sure how you are defining what you believe to be 'showing contempt' or how any of my comments here have fit that category.

I didn't think I was.

I am not implying that people aren't acting like a Liberal should according to some 'Liberal standard' that I have created. Nor am I criticizing anyone for not acting how a 'liberal' should act or not doing what a 'liberal' should do.

I simply turned what you said back to you. Don’t cry foul when you threw the first punch. But with tactics like that, it’s pretty clear how your thoughts and values line up with Trump and his cronies.

You were first with the 'as a Christian' stuff...

..before I threw that 'first punch'.

...and it really isn't a 'tactic' to question why you are trying to measure me by some 'Christian standard' here. I'm not citing Bible verses or trying to use religion to justify anything here. If anything, I was trying to point out that while it often gets the blame, religion isn't really the true culprit.
2 months ago - Tuesday 5/4/21 - 6:54:24 PM EST (GMT-5)
Riiiight. Then you went on to live in some world where ppl in every job and every industry can just work their way up. Jesus said ppl should pick themselves up by their boot straps!
2 months ago - Tuesday 5/4/21 - 7:05:20 PM EST (GMT-5)
No, that's not what I was saying.

Changing industries and/or careers might be a necessary step in getting out of the minimum wage workforce.

I honestly think that the best way to help people trying to support themselves and possible their family with minimum wage jobs is to move them out of those jobs and get them into a career where they can do higher skill work, earn more money, and have the potential to grow.

I don't know where you got the idea that I was suggesting that the minimum wage jobs would magically turn into something with a path for advancement.

I think it's better to help the worker and increase their skill level so they can move into better paying jobs rather than to just push wages beyond the value of the work.

'Move into better paying jobs' doesn't mean staying at the same place of employment and 'working their way up'.
2 months ago - Tuesday 5/4/21 - 7:19:04 PM EST (GMT-5)
I actually thought I was pretty clear about it...

I think that minimum wage should be for entry level, part time work. Anyone looking to support themselves should be working in jobs that can provide opportunities for advancement, and better wages. If it takes government intervention to subsidize training programs as an unemployment benefit or something like that, I could support that. Keeping people trapped in minimum wage jobs (with periodic raises to the minimum wage level) does nothing to really improve their situation.

2 months ago - Tuesday 5/4/21 - 8:57:47 PM EST (GMT-5)
It’s just not realistic. And even if it were, it’s not where we are now. And waiting until all of this could be established, years from now, bipartisan blah blah blah, ppl aren’t making a real living wage.
2 months ago - Tuesday 5/4/21 - 10:11:15 PM EST (GMT-5)
I disagree- - I think it's the most realistic way to address the issue. I think that raising the minimum wage just keeps people trapped at the bottom of the ladder, or worse. When wage levels rise above the cost of outsourcing (sending jobs overseas or replacing them with automation), the jobs go away. Even as a short term solution, raising the minimum wage to 'living wage' levels isn't going to solve the problem.

The only way to truly help people is to help them find a way to increase the value of their work so they have a wider choice of job opportunities and can earn higher wages.

"In wake of COVID, employers step up automation and use of robots"

"As the U.S. economy rebounds from the COVID-19 pandemic, employers are turning to greater use of automation, including robots, rather than calling back workers or hiring new ones in many cases.

The trend is affecting almost every sector, including manufacturing, distribution, transportation, retail, restaurants and many kinds of personal and government services."
