It would be healthier for a mind to be in a more open-minded social environment, though a mind would still thrive in a close-minded social environment as well. Of course, you can expose yourself to the right types of environment to get the best effect.

Nope.
An open-minded environment will reduce the "rebellion" factor, whereas a close-minded environment has less free thought.
It's a bit of a paradox, but no environment is better than the next.
