I know people don't. I mean, look how we treat each other.

But dogs?

There isn't a more loyal, loving and honest creature on earth. I like to believe they do. That's my fairy tale.Tails up there wagging at us.

Is the existence/frequency of good or bad actions relevant to whether the soul exists or not? There are a fair few people treating each other poorly in the Bible, so presumably that's not inconsistent with the Christian idea of the soul. You could argue that the ideas of salvation, heaven/hell, right/wrong rely on the assumption of free will, and thus accepting the possibility that sometimes (some/most/all) people can choose to treat each other poorly.

I think a lot of people assume that dogs can't choose their actions in the same way, so there's not really any virtue in them appearing to be loyal, loving etc. It's not like they never do 'bad' things either, e.g. attacking people/children.

I think having a soul implies sentience/consciousness (though the converse doesn't follow), rather than the appearance of being good. My calculator never lied to me either.

Bull. Your calculator probably lies to you every day. Think of all the erroneous non-significant figures it gives you every time you do a real calculation. :P

And no, dogs do not have souls. Mostly because of what FD noted in the second paragraph. They have no ability to chose right or wrong. And then of course there is the complete lack of any evidence that any other creature besides man has a soul in the Bible.

And I have to tack on, since so many people mentioned about how people treat each other: think on that. Every time you treat someone in any way, good or bad, you are treating an immortal being that way. You are either guiding them toward being a being of such glorious light that you'd be awed in their presence or a being of such darkness that even in your nightmares you've never encountered the like.

Dogs are possesed of free will, it's just in their society they submit to the will of the pack leader.

We replicate that with domesticc dogs but some are more willfull than others.

It seems to me that if souls are a thing dogs would have them too.
