Apple computers are mainstream, and constantly gaining ground on Microsoft.

Last I checked the blackberry curve was the best selling smartphone. Motorola's Droid is a superior product than the iPhone and there are several models due out in a couple of months that should put the nail in iPhones coffin.

The I phone has had its day but I think that apple and rim need to be worried about google and its android platform

Name the any major company that furnished every PC using employee with an apple computer. Apple may be the most common computer you see in movies but how many of you are actually using an apple computer?

The price of apple computers alone will never allow it to "catch up" to Microsoft in the PC market. I bought the cheapest window's lap top at best buy a couple of weeks ago and it's more than capable to use all and every internet service available so why would i pay 1100 dollars for an apple laptop. Buying an apple PC is like buying a toilet made of silver, it's over kill. That is why apple shifted focus to smart phones. It was a way of creating a new market to stake a claim in.

Apple accounts for about 6% of the computer market, which is up a few points from a decade ago.

In fact, the number of iPhones/iPod Touches rivals the number of Linux systems in terms of overall OS market share.

Please explain how apple is "shifting focus" to smart phones?

It's focus isn't any less on computers than it has ever been.

The "apple is too expensive" argument is ridiculous. They may not be the cheapest machines, but you get what you pay for. At the time of the iBook's introduction, it was the second most powerful laptop on the market, second only to the Apple Powerbook, and both were cheaper than their PC equivalents, whilst still being thinner, lighter, more connectable and having better screens.

If the *only* thing you use a computer for is the internet, then sure, perhaps apple isn't for you.

As far as the computers go, it also matters how you are going to use them. PC's and windows lend themselves better to the business world, that's why you find them in business (novel concept, right?) Where as apples are better for media purposes like graphic design and music. I bet the majority of Recording studios in Hollywood have an apple or Mac running pro-tools instead of a PC. Computers are still tools and you have to have the right tool for the job.

If you just need a computer for the internet, get a netbook. Cheap and easy to use
