This would never have occurred to me...

Well, if a 6 figure man is about to look up your bits and extirpate a living being out of 'em, you just want to look your finest.

...

Now that's just absurd.

Because mom is looking to be tidy there? not too likely, I hear that giving birth is kind of messy. No medical reason at all or the hospital would do it and call it surgery (and charge at surgery rates.)
11 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Thursday 1/28/10 - 6:02:09 PM EST (GMT-5)
Good lord, it should be illegal to rip the hair off of a 9 month pregnant lady.
I think they shave you pre-birth, though-at least, I've heard that somewhere.
11 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Thursday 1/28/10 - 6:08:21 PM EST (GMT-5)
Doctors don't give a sh*t how you look when you're giving birth, their main focus is bringing a life into the world, and that the mom and baby are healthy. In fact, they would probably find it kind of odd if you were shaved.
11 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Thursday 1/28/10 - 6:20:20 PM EST (GMT-5)
Meh, if I could still reach down there, I would probably shave but otherwise, it wouldn't bother me.

I imagine it would hurt even more though since you have increased blood flow, especially in that area...

Anus and all.

They USED to shave women just before birth, but then they realized that shaving causes tiny micro-cuts on the skin and studies have shown that more instances of infection have been caused from shaving during labor rather than leaving the area however it may be.
Anyway, whatever the case, the doctors don't care about what you have going on down there aside from teh child being born.

I'm sure the doctors are used to it / see much worse all the time. I wouldn't worry about their feelings...just do what's comfortable.
11 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Saturday 1/30/10 - 1:39:23 AM EST (GMT-5)
There's no reason to make the process of giving birth more painful that it already is.

Pregnant women really shouldn't go to salons at all, because they use some chemicals there (not necessarily for waxes) that can harm the baby. That being said, the kind of lady who's superficial enough to go to the salon while pregnant is probably going to harm the kid in other ways as well

Obviously, if it was on a salon website, that's a giant conflict of interest.

Not at all. What a ludicrous and self-serving opinion of the salon advertisers.
11 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Saturday 1/30/10 - 4:27:38 AM EST (GMT-5)
When/If I'm pregnant, I'm stopping the shaving as soon as my gut gets in the way of seeing anything down there.

Absolutely; all the blood, sh!t and screaming is nowhere near as undignified as an untidy bikini line.

Christ on a bike.

It's not necessary, of course, but if a woman wants one, I'm not going to judge her. If she always got it done, why should she just because she's knocked up?

hahahahaha
oh man

That's pretty unfair of you. Waxing doesn't hurt the baby, so why would you think she'd be inclined to hurt it in other ways?
(btw, you're right about the chemicals, BUT, every place I've had waxing done, they have you wait in the waiting area, then go straight to a room used/set up ONLY for that purpose. There's ho reason to think you'd be exposed to anything harmful.)

Oh yeah. Every time I give a pregnant lady a haircut, I just know she's going to mess up her kid.

Don't they shave women before delivery anyway? I know a few women who have had that done, but I don't know if it's common practice.

Hey, since you are in this business, what exactly are the things pregnant women shouldn't have done?
I know my boss said something about not being able to have her fake nails done in some certain way (because of the chemicals used), and I've heard of people whose hair color didn't turn out the way it should have while they were pregnant, but other than that, is there anything people should be overly concerned about, as far as salon treatments go?
11 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Monday 2/1/10 - 11:30:26 PM EST (GMT-5)
^^^ I remember reading an article for a class about how pregnant cosmetologists who worked in salons had something like double the risk of spontaneous abortions. In other words salons in general probably aren't that great for pregnant women, but one or two visits over the course of a pregnancy probably won't kill the baby either.

I can only think that the hospital would shave you before a C-section, and that'd be only if you're quite hairy that you have a very large bush.
I wax anyway, and I'll continue to have waxes while I'm pregnant...although I wouldn't be able to lift my legs and get the 'back' done.

I stopped being able to see down there at about six months. I don't shave anymore like I used to, but I do whip out the scissors every month to cut the hair down. I've never like a hairy vagina and it's just weird knowing I've got one, even if I can't see it.
