I think gorillas are shyer than bears, and lack the ferocity of most species of bear, particularly the Black or Brown bears, so I think a bear would win.

I don't know, silverbacks are pretty aggressive, aren't they?

They both have tremendous strength, but a full grown grizzly could stand taller and it has razor sharp claws and teeth. But then again, I've heard gorrilas are pretty damn aggresive in fight... and with thumbs, I'm sure theyd adapt to use rocks....
I'd say the grizzly.

then don't bother delegating a response in the thread.
I feel like the silverback would win. Contrary to popular belief, silverback gorillas are rather aggressive. They are ten times stronger than a human, while possessing the opposable thumbs of their weaker cousins. With these advantages, I think the gorilla would tear the limbs off a bear before the bear could get a hit in.

Not scary, she said scarry! Like, because they'd rip each other up so bad that it leaves scars!
Gorillas are generally more badass. This is an established fact of nature. They will pound the sh*t out of you. They're not just all muscle, either: they have a mean set of choppers that you really don't want to get between.
Grizzlies really don't fight a lot. Unless you are a fish or you're threatening its babies (if it's a female), it won't go after you. Even though it can stand, the gorilla can stand better. Even with its claws, the gorilla's fists and thumbs are more versatile. Grizzlies aren't that smart, either. Gorillas, though, have learned sign language. Gorillas can use tools (and if someone gave it an M-16, it wo

uld win for sure). Gorillas have a glue named after them.
Bears are WEAK. I see teddy bears all the time. I own a few. Ever seen a teddy gorilla? That's right; you haven't. That's because they're too awesome.

A bear is stronger, has claws, and a much deadlier jaw. Apes have a lot of arm strength but...I dunno, I think the bear would win.

have you ever seen a pissed off silverback gorilla? Those bastards move! They're fast, strong, and all set to break a bear's neck. Bears can move too, but I'm thinking the gorilla would outmaneuver the bear just because of its build.

Okay, let me put it to you this way. If a man with a knife comes at a black belt in karate who would win? The black-belt, or the man with the knife? Naturally, the black belt would win, regardless of weaponry because he has a greater advantage over the man with the knife, regardless of size. The gorilla's strength, intelligence, speed, and dexterity make it a formidable foe for the bear, even though the bear may be stronger and possess more weaponry than the ape.

We're not talking about a black-belt vs. an untrained man with a knife. We're talking about two animals, with no more skill than instinct. It's more like a biff between a pair of bikers, one weighing 60kgs the other 100kgs. Contrary to popular belief, when two people of equal skill fight, the bigger stronger one always wins.

I can totally see the gorilla just grabbing the bear by it's lower and upper jaw and breaking it's skull in half, or maybe I'm just thinking of King Kong

APE ALL THE WAY MAN!!! normally i would say bear but they're both equally as strong (apes a little more) and the ape also has the element of the jungle, climbing trees (faster) running and jumping (jumping but bear i think runs faster) so i think the ape tallies it up

The gorilla has a passive nature so he'd probably be trying to get away! If he had defend his family he might have a chance but i doubt it - bear has huge teeth and claws big as your fingers and weighs twice as much! Ick i cant imagine such a thing, sounds like one for the Roman gladiator arena days!
