Would a comic book still be interesting if it were pages upon pages of nothing but pictures, with no text whatsoever to accompany them? Do visually-based works of fiction require words to be entertaining?
That is, any verbal component immediately obvious to the viewer, be it spoken dialogue, written dialogue, captions, or subtext. Would a comic book still be interesting if it were pages upon pages of nothing but pictures, with no text whatsoever to accompany them? Would anyone want to sit through a two-hour silent movie with no captions or subtext?

Timothy Leary suggested that, in the not-so-distant future, almost all forms of media will be entirely visual (as visual media is not restricted by cultural or lingual barriers).

Did you ever read 'Chaos and Cyberculture' by him? I read it in high school and he was dead-on with a lot of his predictions about the web...I just hope he's not so accurate that all media will just be visual someday. I like words, a lot.

I think text puts things into more context, images alone can be misleading. Although it isn't absolutely necessary.
