If by socially conservative, you mean more religious people, no. Between the people that I know that go to church and those that don't, the churchy people are far more giving of their personal time and money to the needy. I think sometimes people get the misconception that conservatives are misery because many are against federal funded programs for the poor. From what I gather from some that I know, they prefer to either give out of the goodness of their heart rather than have the government "tell" them they have to give and who they have to give to.

That said, I'm neither a conservative nor do I go to church!

I'm pretty miserly, but I'm far from socially conservative. I admit to my paranoid moments, but I'm anything but conservative on a social level.

But I am pretty cheap.

I dont see why you immediately assume socially conservative means religious. Yes many religious people are conservative, mostly in the sense that they want to conserve traditions, but socially conservative does not mean religious, and you intertwine the two far too much.

Thus the preface of "If by". That angle is what I based my answer to the question on. Thanks for your input!

You answered the question "Do you think a person who is miserly is also religious?" That is not an angle, that is changing the question into something different.

Dave, please don't try to tell me that you don't know as well as I that the vast majority of socially conservative people are regularly practicing some religion or another. If you can honestly tell me that, then I'll rise to your bait.....otherwise the point is moot.

Sorry, I come from a long line of people who love to debate just for the fun of it. At this point in my life, unless there IS a point, I just walk away.

By the way, you didn't answer the question.

No, not necessarily. There are certainly people who are miserly and socially liberal or moderate, but most tend to put their miserly tendencies ahead of their positions on social issues.
