I believe that he should be allowed since he probably wanted to go but the guy who said that he faces more risk than the other soldiers of being kidnapped is a very good reason not to go.
15 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Friday 5/18/07 - 7:48:30 AM EST (GMT-5)
I think he'd be a target, because of his royalty. It'd be very dangerous for him as it also is for anyone who fights out there. I think it should be his decision, though.

it makes sense for the army to keep him off the front line. I may have offered him an office job or something.
15 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Tuesday 5/22/07 - 3:09:29 PM EST (GMT-5)
If he's stupid enough to want to go, let him I say
15 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Tuesday 5/22/07 - 3:58:26 PM EST (GMT-5)
i donrt think he should as this puts his entire regement at risk
15 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Tuesday 5/22/07 - 4:19:04 PM EST (GMT-5)
it makes sense that he was not allowed to, but if i were him, i would want to go. if they were never going to let him be in the war, then they should have never let him join the military though.
15 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Tuesday 5/22/07 - 5:39:45 PM EST (GMT-5)
so wot he's a prince, if they realy wanted to hurt the royal family they would hijack a plane and drive it into buckingham palace
15 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Tuesday 5/22/07 - 6:04:30 PM EST (GMT-5)
psh, f*ck the prince...and the WHOLE ROYAL FAMILY..the can all get aids as far as i care...if he wants to fight? LET HIM.....its HIS choice...not his f*ckin family...if theirs no ligit reason (health setbacks, ect...) why he cant, then LET HIM FFS!
15 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Tuesday 5/22/07 - 7:30:22 PM EST (GMT-5)
Probably not, it would put the whole group he'd be with at risk.
15 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Tuesday 5/22/07 - 7:31:13 PM EST (GMT-5)
If he wants to go, let him.
15 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Tuesday 5/22/07 - 7:39:03 PM EST (GMT-5)
There should be no special treatment for anyone in the f+cking Royal Family. If I had my way they'd be long got a long time ago.

I don't think it was the case that they were "never going to let him". It appears that they were seriously considering letting him fight. They only decided not to let him when specific targeted threats had been discovered.

If there were specific plots against him it would be unfair to the soldiers he would be fighting alongside.

Also, killing a British prince would also be a huge propoganda boost to the insurgency so if there was a high risk, it wouldn't be worth it.

It's a simple fact that he'd be a liability, and would put other soldiers at risk.

He shouldn't go, but there shouldn't have been the whole gearing-up for his departure either. It should have been out of the question from the beginning.

if the dumb pillocks in the British media hadn't have bleated on about it all in the first place, no one would have known he'd be going and there would have been no problem.
15 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Wednesday 5/23/07 - 4:05:16 PM EST (GMT-5)
Yes! I believe he should have..

thats what i was trying to say
15 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Wednesday 5/23/07 - 7:20:05 PM EST (GMT-5)
No, for the simple fact that he would be a target. It isn't so much him, but he would be putting an added risk to those he would be working/fighting alongside.
15 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Wednesday 5/23/07 - 8:14:31 PM EST (GMT-5)
It would be dangerous, and a little idiotic, but I think its his choice.

Yes, we need all the people fighting in Iraq that we can possibly get.
15 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Friday 5/25/07 - 4:11:54 AM EST (GMT-5)
it's not as simple as 'special treatment' or 'just let him go'.

look at it from the iraqi side. a prince is heading towards the front line. Easy target, morale drop, and reality hits home on how many troops are killed. It would cause a huge surge against the war. It's an irresistible target, he and everyone with him would get bombed or raided or something. Not worth letting him feel normal.

You're really not thinking the situation through.

I don't buy this "increase the risk" thing. Are insurgents really going to bothered which British soldier they kill? And how are they going to recognise him?

They obviously won't see his face from across a battlefield or whatever, but I'm sure they have ways of finding out where he is.

And they probably won't want to kill him, rather kidnap him, which would have an even greater effect on morale.

I voted no since I think Harry should be worth the same as anyone else. Also I agree with people who say "if you're dumb enough to want to go GO and do your thing over there". Harry wants to go so badly but the insurgents will gain too much if they kill him. Maybe they should shock and awe basra before he goes in. Maybe we can do that so Harry can have a better go at it?

one final thought one of my close friends is toiling away in iraq. hes US Army. if Harry going to iraq meant my friend can come back and sit out the rest of this war you better believe ill make prince nazi girl-pimper go. have you seen british or american tabloids? he partys too much even for a royal.
