It's good for staying in shape, it's one of the only sports that fully excercises all of the muscles, but it's not a good way to lose weight.
16 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Thursday 4/6/06 - 12:10:21 PM EST (GMT-5)
It's an excellent form of exercise and my favorite.
16 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Thursday 4/6/06 - 12:12:28 PM EST (GMT-5)

16 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Thursday 4/6/06 - 12:15:20 PM EST (GMT-5)
I've been on a local swim team for about 6 years now, and it's a great form of exercise. It tones you up really well, but there isn't constant strain on your joints. And it's insanely fun.
16 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Thursday 4/6/06 - 9:20:47 PM EST (GMT-5)
Yes, as long as you dont drown, which is exactly what I would do so no.
16 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Monday 4/10/06 - 5:15:08 PM EST (GMT-5)
I LOVE swimming in large pools when they're empty.
16 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Monday 4/10/06 - 5:16:03 PM EST (GMT-5)
Of course! Even just *walking* in the water exercises your muscles, it's a great way to stay in shape! Plus, it's so smooth and easy, it hardly feels like you're working out.
16 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Sunday 4/23/06 - 3:18:34 AM EST (GMT-5)
Yes, it's the best!
16 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Thursday 4/27/06 - 7:50:16 AM EST (GMT-5)
I never really swim but when my bf and I went on holiday we swam for 3 hours a day. When I returned home I found that I could run for long distances without getting out of breath. Good thing is, I never felt that I was doing excersise.

I will try and do as many lengths as pos as feel it works out the whole body if you alternate strokes

then you get to relax in steam room and sauna!
16 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Friday 5/12/06 - 1:55:40 PM EST (GMT-5)
Swimming is practically the only exercise I get these days. I wish I could do it more.
16 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Sunday 5/14/06 - 12:17:45 AM EST (GMT-5)
Yes, it's great exersize. I just don't do it because I think public swimming pools are disgusting.
16 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Sunday 5/14/06 - 11:29:31 PM EST (GMT-5)
In the generic sense for the general public? Yes, it's wonderful. Works several muscles.

Personally, for me, not so much. I can't swim. I doubt that drowning is good exercise.

16 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Monday 5/15/06 - 12:03:27 AM EST (GMT-5)
Agh, I hate swimming. I was forced to be on a swim team for a few years and I hated it so much.

It IS good exercise, though.

16 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Saturday 5/27/06 - 8:13:55 AM EST (GMT-5)

16 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Friday 6/2/06 - 4:39:46 AM EST (GMT-5)
Yeah, swimming is good. But I cannot, for the life of me, so a butterfly stroke.

But I can swim an olympic pool length underwater...or I could when I was 11.

16 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Thursday 7/6/06 - 11:26:16 PM EST (GMT-5)
Yes, and it's fun too!
16 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Thursday 7/6/06 - 11:31:22 PM EST (GMT-5)
In theory, yes. However without access to the pool in the summer I don't actually do it that well. Plus, as much as I hate to admit it, my form could use some work.
16 yrs ago - Tuesday 8/1/06 - 12:08:54 AM EST (GMT-5)
I like swimming. I just don't do it. I am house sitting a place with a pool, but I couldn't find my swimmers, so I haven't been able to go in. If the neighbours weren't so scary I'd consider skinny dipping.
