If gender roles were reversed, and men stayed at home and cooked and cleaned while women worked all day, do you think sports would be played during the weekdays, in the place of soap operas?

Yeah, that makes more sense.

1) There's Sports Center
2) What about tennis? Last night I checked that was played during the day.
3) American sports aren't the only sports that are on. European football, rugby, etc are all available at different times.

F*ckin A, that makes total sense!

I'm more willing to bet that the time slots would be the same, but it would be WOMEN playing football.

Of course, they have to fit their schedule with the wider audience.

I find that question horribly stereotyped. Me and my flatmates do our own sh*t, I cook and they clean (not too bad since I enjoy cooking and hate cleaning)

If gender roles are reversed, wouldn't all popular football/baseball/basketball be played by women and watched by women?

Probably.
You'd think so.

If my partner and I have kids, he would like to do this, have me take paid maternity leave and then go back ot work while he looks after bub. Maybe for the second baby.

Good point

I'd be like the men who say that their woman had better get a dmaned job, or get kicked out.

Right now I AM the one staying home on paternity leave. And I'm always the one doing the cooking if I can. I love cooking. And I usually hate watching sports on TV. I hate soap operas too though. I usually watch Discovery Science if anything.

That makes sense. But I think that women's sports are just as interesting (or uninteresting) as men's sports.

yeah, every day too.

I'm a stay at home mum. Have been for eleven years. Haven't watched a single daytime soap opera in all that time. I'm WAY WAY too busy to for that.
16 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Saturday 7/29/06 - 2:23:37 PM EST (GMT-5)
Well that's a tad stereotypical. Men and woman are pretty much even in the work force today, although women do not get paid as much for the same work. There are just as many men staying at home, as there are women making money. Considering this, NO there would no be more sports channels because it is even right now. Plus, you shouldn't be watching tv, you should be interacting with your children.

Haha, Good question Tx. And yes I believe that would be so.

Don't whine to me. I'm not the one that markets daytime programming toward women. If you have a problem with playing programs in accordance with the demographics most likely to be watching, you are going to have to talk to the TV Executives.

That was one of the funniest things I've read all week. YES, that would also have the advantage of saving the weekend for the things that matter in life. Let's do it.
16 yrs ago - Sunday 9/10/06 - 11:46:59 AM EST (GMT-5)
If gender roles were reversed then most men probably wouldn't want to watch sports.

I'm a women and I love watching football this question is really stereotypical. I go to work and then come home and do some cleaning but my Fiance cooks most of the nights since he gets home from work earlier.

15 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Sunday 12/17/06 - 1:58:41 PM EST (GMT-5)
The question is theoretical - it's talking about the traditional views of gender roles, it's not a sexist attack on anyone.
15 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Sunday 12/17/06 - 10:26:46 PM EST (GMT-5)
It depends, if the men truly changed to the environment of women, men might be more sensitive and enjoy daytime dramas as women do.
15 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Sunday 12/17/06 - 11:03:06 PM EST (GMT-5)
Oh yeah, I think so.
15 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Sunday 12/17/06 - 11:05:37 PM EST (GMT-5)

Yes,and if men had periods instead of women all sanitary protection would be provided free by the state.
15 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Saturday 12/23/06 - 1:13:29 PM EST (GMT-5)
most definately why would not they?
15 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Saturday 12/23/06 - 1:54:56 PM EST (GMT-5)
Gosh, no stereotyping in this question...and I love sports.
