Well, for me, it was about getting good grades to graduate. I didn't ever feel like I learned THAT much

Passing - whether you remembered the stuff for 1 hour for the test, or for the rest of your life, it didin't matter. I'm going to completely forget the math I learned by the end of next year.
16 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 5/23/05 - 9:57:47 PM EST (GMT-5)
Passing tests so that there can be more drama that way, of course. There's no drama involved in learning b/c there is no competition. At my school, every single thing is competition.
16 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 5/23/05 - 10:38:50 PM EST (GMT-5)
Passing tests so the school can get more funding.
16 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 5/23/05 - 10:39:43 PM EST (GMT-5)
When I was in school, I was actually trying to get good grades, I didn't care how much of the information I was actually keeping.

It was all about passing the TAAS test. Now the TAAS is no longer given out. The new standardized test is called the TAKS.
16 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Tuesday 5/24/05 - 2:21:17 PM EST (GMT-5)
My school was about budgeting. Nobody cared about teaching.
16 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Tuesday 5/24/05 - 2:45:11 PM EST (GMT-5)
We all know the real answer to this one.
16 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Wednesday 5/25/05 - 6:40:01 AM EST (GMT-5)
Passing tests, obviously. Learning seems to be an accidental by-product.
16 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Wednesday 5/25/05 - 6:08:08 PM EST (GMT-5)
Gaining knowledge is probably the last thing on any school going kid's mind.Students just want to get it over with.Teachers just want to get it over with.No one bothers to gain any knowledge when it's not requried but not encouraged either. It's quite sad really.
16 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Wednesday 5/25/05 - 10:55:55 PM EST (GMT-5)
I don't know, i hate school.
16 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Wednesday 5/25/05 - 11:01:51 PM EST (GMT-5)
I don't take tests anymore. Even if I did, it would be about learning, or more accurately, about doing research that teaches others.
16 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Wednesday 5/25/05 - 11:05:18 PM EST (GMT-5)
I think that its about the tests because know adays teachers don't get paid to teach, they get paid to give us tests and make it look like their teaching us something, when we all know, we're forhgot it after high school.

unfortunantly, you have to learn a little to pass tests. (emphasis on little) but the tests pass you, not what you actually learn.
16 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Wednesday 5/25/05 - 11:09:15 PM EST (GMT-5)
As sad as it may be, I think that schools in this area are all about passing tests. It isn't a concern as to whether or not the information we're given is absorbed and understood, but rather that it's memorized long enough to take the test and pass.

My school was all about the TAAS (when I was in school, but now it's the TAKS).

16 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Thursday 5/26/05 - 10:38:03 AM EST (GMT-5)
All they care about is passing tests to make the district look good. It's one of the reasons I left: I was wasting my time.
16 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Thursday 5/26/05 - 2:07:42 PM EST (GMT-5)
it seems it is all about the tests at my school...we focus so much on getting good grades that it's annoying.
16 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Thursday 5/26/05 - 2:15:07 PM EST (GMT-5)
Passing tests so that the school will look good.
16 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Thursday 5/26/05 - 5:32:07 PM EST (GMT-5)
learning, obviously!!!! Thats the whole point of school., duh!
16 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Thursday 5/26/05 - 7:09:36 PM EST (GMT-5)
Most schools are very flawed...all I'd do was learn it, take a test, then forget it.
16 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Thursday 5/26/05 - 9:26:09 PM EST (GMT-5)
It's all about making the teacher and school district look good so that Bush can give us some pocket money in order to be more updated by buying second hand computers. we memorize and then take a test then forget again.
16 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Thursday 5/26/05 - 10:04:16 PM EST (GMT-5)
it used to be about learning. but now its about tests. ive learned this as lately some very smart people got caught stealing and photocopying tests @ my school..and they've been doing to for awhile.
16 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Friday 5/27/05 - 8:06:34 AM EST (GMT-5)
Passing tests! I just cram for the exam and forget it all afterwards. It's pointless and I think we take far to many exams now.
