reason. a higher power that speaks to all, just more often to atheists and agnostics than religious people

Ah, I just love people who get pulled out of a burning house and thank 'God' instead of the person who pulled them out... Oh, and don't forget that 'God' punished America by sending those bad, bad hurricanes, tornados, etc. Let's just ignore the fact that children who get beaten and raped on a daily basis have done absolutely nothing to get punished for.

And do NOT start on the 'free-will'-poo.

Oh, and no, not exactly a 'higher power' - I'll agree with the others who say science and reason.

You don't need to add an anti-relgion rant to every post you know, we get enough of them around here.

I didn't intend to rant. Whoops.

I hate people who think that atheists don't have any morals.

That basically includes all you people who said "Yeah, money"

People don't need religion to hear voices in their head.
We got pills for that.

Why do you pity atheists? To an athiest, everything is in the world is as it should be. Life and nature is more beautiful for me, knowing that it came into existence more or less by "accident". Isaac Asimov, an atheist author, describes his belief in what happens after death as "a long, dreamless sleep." Sounds kind of nice, actually.

Isn't the whole premise of atheism that they do not believe in a higher power?

Thats funny cuz Atheists pity you, for needing a supernatural false sense of security to make it through the day. This must also mean you believe in magic, aliens, ghosts, and the tooth fairy.

An aitheist tries to follow unbiased media, read blogs, as well watch actual news (sometimes misleading but good for local news and sheds light on some subjects)... and piece together the stories to form an accurate (as possible from afar) opinion of reality to live by it, and deal with it openly. Unless your just an agnostic and you love your family and don't care what happens outside your town..

"Yes--the trouble is that the Atheists tend not to hear or listen..." Hear or listen to what? Even Catholics don't hear anything, and if they did, they'd be crazy. They may talk to God, but God never talks back.

so true.
the problem is that a higher power doesnt talk back and as christians just beleive without proof they wont listen to anyone else so that means they have just made up their minds and thats that, where as everyone else is saying convince me then god, im open to all ideas and willing to take them on board and christians just think their right with no justification and then when you try to chat to them about it with an open mind they just try and convert you or pity you. narrow minded uneducated pratts. well not everyone but most of them

i wouldn't really say there was any 'higher power' sure there is logic and reasoning but that is simply part of humanity
15 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Friday 4/20/07 - 6:39:22 PM EST (GMT-5)
Part of the reason why I became atheist, then agnostic (aside from philosophical reasons) was that I looked and listened, and there was nothing else there, nothing beyond my real experience.
15 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Friday 4/20/07 - 6:51:59 PM EST (GMT-5)
I'm agnostic...so I guess I shouldn't answer this question, but since I'm not religious, I sort of want to answer.

I've never been literally spoken to, but I have had moments and feelings of there being...something more. I don't know if this is something simply caused by my human brain, but I can't deny that I have felt it.

15 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Friday 4/20/07 - 6:53:02 PM EST (GMT-5)
ah you're a kind of atheist, it's okay
15 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Friday 4/20/07 - 6:55:05 PM EST (GMT-5)
I don't think so..
15 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Friday 4/20/07 - 6:55:25 PM EST (GMT-5)
Haha! I wouldn't want to call myself a "kind of" atheist, though. I find what they believe just as difficult to believe as any religion. But I'm similar enough (not having a religion) that I guess it's okay for me to answer the question.
