When making conversation, do you ask polite questions that you already know the answers to?
For instance:

`So you`re from London right?`

`Yes, born and raised.`

Sometimes I can't think of another good conversation opener so I ask something I already know the answer too. It's only embarrassing if you get caught. ;)
