Example: I lived in Oklahoma for a long time. Oklahoma never, ever fails to vote Republican. Being a democrat, I would be hesitant to vote in Oklahoma because I'd be outnumbered to the point where my vote didn't matter one bit. Question Who's Online | Find Members | Private Messages

If the area you live in consistently votes in favor of one political party and you are a member of the other, would you vote at all?
Example: I lived in Oklahoma for a long time. Oklahoma never, ever fails to vote Republican. Being a democrat, I would be hesitant to vote in Oklahoma because I`d be outnumbered to the point where my vote didn`t matter one bit.

I'd still vote. Yeah, it would be meaningless, but i still want to say "there's at least one."

Yeah. Otherwise you can't complain.

i still vote no matter what people think or say.

It wont effect in the popular but it still effects electoral overall. And if its that bad, just move and you needn't complain (plus it may be tiring after a while, to always see campaing bumber stickers of the opposite party).
17 yrs ago - Monday 9/6/04 - 6:19:37 PM EST (GMT-5)
Yes, i do. Houston is a very conservative area, as is all of texas!
17 yrs ago - Monday 9/6/04 - 6:45:44 PM EST (GMT-5)
Yes. Who cares what party everybody else votes for? My decision counts too, even if it is outnumbered.
17 yrs ago - Monday 9/6/04 - 6:56:55 PM EST (GMT-5)
Yes I'd still vote.

Think about it this way. If everyone who was a Democrat that lived in Oaklahoma decided not to vote because they thought it wouldn't make any difference, then the voice of the Oaklahoma Democrats would never be heard. This means a swing in the voting would never happen. Of course a swing takes years to accomplish, but you've got to start somewhere.

Yes, I would vote no matter what.
16 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Saturday 12/25/04 - 9:41:01 PM EST (GMT-5)
Yea I would vote because How is it ever gonna change if you are teaching your kids...there kids...and there kids not to vote...it wont change so just vote!!....I live in a little town In Oregon and we always vote republican...and it waas funny though because we took a poll and 56% of the town was democratic but they wont step up and vote because they lost the last couple years so they need to vote to Change it

I'm an Ohio Democrat, and I voted for change. Nobody's going to bully me out of going to the polls on election day!
16 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Monday 2/7/05 - 7:06:44 PM EST (GMT-5)
There is no point in voting because all the parties have nothing in common with the actual people of the country- they're just in it for the money.
16 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Monday 2/7/05 - 7:07:34 PM EST (GMT-5)
You should always vote!
16 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Monday 2/7/05 - 7:08:54 PM EST (GMT-5)
In the UK, there's a choice between a party who only care about making money, and another who don't care about anything but themselves. Plus the voting station is too far away, so no chance.
16 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Monday 2/14/05 - 8:18:02 AM EST (GMT-5)
Yes Just in case.
16 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Monday 2/28/05 - 7:46:09 PM EST (GMT-5)
Well, if you were to go to another state that always votes Democrat, your vote still woudn't matter and you would just be in the crowd of other Democrats.
Your vote would still effect the electoral and you can always hope for a swing.
16 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Sunday 4/10/05 - 7:54:09 AM EST (GMT-5)
I wouldnt vote anyway, like Natski666 said its too much hard work
16 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Sunday 4/10/05 - 7:58:39 AM EST (GMT-5)
At the very least, like WhiteLocust said, if you don't vote, you have no right to complain.
I'm in the same boat as the situation Zenkat described in the story- an unaffiliated but left-leaning voter in conservative NC. However, we almost always elect a Democratic governor, and there are a lot of local elections that go either way. One thing I am freed up to do is to vote for a third party candidate if I want. I know the Presidential vote tally in NC is not going to be so close that I need to stick to the big 2.

And if everyone thought like that, nothing would ever change even if a whole bunch of people wanted to vote with you, they might all think it's futile. (If you know what I mean).
16 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Wednesday 4/27/05 - 9:31:55 AM EST (GMT-5)
If you don't vote, you have absolutely no right whatsoever to complain when the government f**ks you. And they will f**k you.
16 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Thursday 4/28/05 - 12:34:06 PM EST (GMT-5)
I so agree with Brunnen and others that say you have no right to complain if you don't vote.
Also, your opinions have no standing if you don't back them up by, at least, voting. If you can't take that simple step to register your opinion on who should represent you, why should I bother to listen to whatever you have to say?
16 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Thursday 4/28/05 - 12:37:04 PM EST (GMT-5)
Of course I'd vote.
My vote is still a vote.
