They can draw, but they are usually pretty stiff... I can't draw with all those circles and guidelines at all... but I can draw naturally.

Yeah, it takes talent though to do it very good.

Everyone has to practice, even gifted artists. The only exception would be those weird hyper-geniuses that come out of the womb able to paint like the masters.

One can learn and progress, but someone with innate talent will progress much faster with the same amount of practice.

Of course it's possible. A lot of people say I was born with the ability to draw, but I only got as good as I am by practicing every day for almost 20 years. Some might learn a little faster than others, but everybody learns, and everybody has to practice.

I think that you have to be born with a flair for creativity and that an artists abilities develop and improve over time. I don't think one can be taught how to draw because art isn't something that is exact. There's always a million different interpretations and techniques and there is no right or wrong. That's one of the reasons I don't do art at school anymore.

You can learn techniques and get better at applying them. It's then really up to your viewing audience to decide if it's awesome or it sucks.

Maybe this question should have asked if someone can learn to taught to be an artist.

I just started drawing this summer, and I'm fairly decent now, so yes. It's definetely possible.

I think most people learned how to draw letters at some time.

I can draw fairly well with those materials I needed for math. Drawing is just math combined with patience.

The ability to draw is easily learned and can be improved over time simply by practicing. However, the thing that diferentiates the "good" artist and the naturally talented artist is creativity. Without the imagination and daring needed to get a decent idea for your art, it doesn't matter how good your skills are, your work will still be second hand.

"Maybe this question should have asked if someone can learn to taught to be an artist." i've thought of that before adding this question, exo. however being an "artist" is too much of a broad concept. it could inculde everything from literature to performing arts. so i narrowed it down to what i can relate to the most. also, drawing is the basis of visual arts, which is why i made a reference to it in the story part of the question.

So what if "talent" is replaced with mathematical skills and "creativity" with psychological insights? Or could those just be the same?

I think one can get slightly better, but I don't think one can turn into an awesome artist through rote practice.

For some people, yes. Not everyone though.
