Yes we all have good hand-to-eye coordination from all the video games we play

I agree with Kiki wholeheartedly.

War is Hell on a computor monitor.

That sums it up really doesn't it?

Being a soldier is all about sitting behind a computor operated weapons system and pushing buttons.

Nothing to do with manning checkpoints or interrogating prisoners.

I think we would.

We're a generation (in general) of spoiled brats, I doubt it.

The demographics are interesting on this one.

with the introduction of the "stress card" into military training, our armed forces are turning into a bunch of weak, cry babies. i wish the video game scenario were true in every instance, as we would be unbeatable. however, with any military action we will always need ground troops. with the new methods of training, i am worried about the future.

I personally would make one hell of a crappy soldier. Thinking and feeling are two things they generally try to suppress in soldiers, it seems. Plus, I think my refusal to participate in any way, shape, or form probably wouldn't help any performance reviews.

Nah, too lazy.

"Stress cards" don't exist. I've been in the Army for 19 years and have yet to see one, and I've been involved in the "training" aspect of the military for a few years. There aren't any new methods of training. Basic training, at least for combat arms skills, is still physically challenging. Combat support and combat service support-related basic training has been modified thanks to making those basic training environments "coed." If anything, it's in the advanced individual training (now incorporated into "Initial Entry Training") arena where standards slip. Bottom line: the military works with whomever it's given, doing its best to train an effective military member.

I'm thinking not.
18 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Monday 6/7/04 - 8:47:46 PM EST (GMT-5)
probably not

I think a draft should automatically start with the children of those in Congress and the Executive branch. No exceptions, no deferments, straight to the frontline.

This war would have never happened then. Bush doesn't mind lying to get us into a war when it's other folks children in harm's way though.

You didn't answer the question, DoMo.

Are you a politician?

True, DoMo didn't answer the question, did he.

I merely expanded the question.

dogtags: i am a former soldier, and i had heard that stress card story from many people in many branches. thanks for clearing up that major misinformation i had bought in to.

There are a lot of people who don't seem like they would make good soldiers, but with the right guidance anything can happen. I've known people who I thought would never make it through basic training, but people change when it is necessary.

I think if they wanted to join it would be extremely effective, but no matter what age, if you dont want to do it, you arent going to try,
17 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Thursday 10/14/04 - 10:00:01 PM EST (GMT-5)
there'd be no problem getting them to the war, and with a little luck on the governments part, they'd be shocked into blindly following orders.
17 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Thursday 10/14/04 - 10:03:29 PM EST (GMT-5)
No, but video games do make them better surgeons.
17 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Sunday 3/27/05 - 3:59:08 AM EST (GMT-5)
Basically ANY population between 18 and 26 would make an effective fighting force if they were drafted and trained as soldiers. Their morale probably wouldn't be very good, but they'd be able to kill.
17 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Sunday 3/27/05 - 5:02:27 AM EST (GMT-5)
It all depends on who we're fighting against. If we went up against Morocco, we'd definitely be efficient. If we're going up against say, China, we'd be wholeheartedly screwed. Their sheer numbers are overwhelming.
