The original Superman got his strength from stronger gravity on Krypton. He could only leap over buildings then and run faster than a locomotive. How do they explain that he is so much faster and stronger now than comic book Superman? When Christopher Reeve was Superman, he flew around the world so fast he sent us all back in time an hour or so. That would have to be faster than light.

Superman is a little bit too powerful. But, that probably has allegorical meaning. So much power, that can be overcome by a few grams of Kryptonite. It shows that everyone, from the most powerful to the least, has their own kryptonite with which they must deal. The hard part is finding out what that kryptonite is...
