It was old news, however. There had been talk for decades about Rich being gay (for example, a gay man who died of AIDS back in the mid-'80s - I can't remember his name, though - made a death-bed confession about meeting Rich in a gay bar back in the '60s).

As well, Rich had long been one of my mother's heart-throbs, and my father would occasionally make jokes about him to stir her up.
