No....his painting are not beautiful. They are crass, mass-produced, commercial fodder for soccer Moms going window shopping!

Since when does art have to be beautiful or even the product of genuine skill or hard work?
Sure, he's an artist, if the guy who put his picture of jesus in a jar of piss is an artist, they guy definately qualifies.

And I think the paintings are nice.

oooh I've seen the one on the right before! I like that one a lot actually! I don't care if he's mass-produced I think the paintings are cute!

The kid at the cash register ringing you up for buying this schlock is more involved in Kinkade's artwork than Kinkade himself!

Tsu, what do you think about Inkers?
18 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Wednesday 1/21/04 - 9:15:51 PM EST (GMT-5)
That's a bit harsh Tsurumi... I seriously don't see any problem with his art. In fact, I like it a lot. Especially the one on the right...

Oh well.. each to their own.

Personally, I think it's a lot better than my mom's art. I mean...one of my mom's latest sculptures is a headless fat woman with her head coming out of her vagina....the head's also chained to the vagina.. I don't know. It's just the fact that it's my mom's artwork that it disturbs me...If it was someone else doing it I probably wouldn't be so bothered.

but anyway.. i'm not as critical of things... and I like that about myself. I can appreciate all types of art no matter how mass-produced or

oops.. haha no matter how mass produced or even...ummm..the opposite of mass-produced.. i can't think right now..

haha! yeah! I can appreciate all art except for my mom's!

ick...

Eh, couldn't care less about how the pictures are produced, I think they look cool.

And I agree with Trips. There are artists far worse we could scrutinize than this guy.

Is it art if only people with bad taste think it's art? I don't think I could be down with people who own "his" works or find them appealing. I know a potential relationship is doomed the minute I find her Kinkade screensaver or a picture in her hallway...the only place they belong is in the bathroom, going down the toilet. Notice there are no frigging people in his pictures (they're all working on the assembly line putting "his" paintings together). And "he" always puts one of those awful fish in every picture too. Gag me with a pitchfork.

his stuff just creeps me out. and the fact that he's doing it for christ doesn't help.
18 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Thursday 1/22/04 - 5:28:49 AM EST (GMT-5)
those pictures look nice and he is an artist
18 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Wednesday 2/11/04 - 5:14:57 PM EST (GMT-5)
Hey! I have that picture in my living room.
18 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Wednesday 2/11/04 - 5:31:04 PM EST (GMT-5)
Yes, his art is really good
18 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Wednesday 2/11/04 - 5:42:12 PM EST (GMT-5)
its not orignal but its still art crap or not
18 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Wednesday 2/11/04 - 5:49:36 PM EST (GMT-5)
It is NOT art.
18 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Thursday 4/1/04 - 12:11:26 PM EST (GMT-5)
Yes, anyone could be an artist...even the work one produces doesn't look appealing.
18 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Thursday 4/8/04 - 5:46:34 PM EST (GMT-5)
It's not like Michelangelo was the only person who worked on the ceiling.
18 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Thursday 4/8/04 - 5:52:42 PM EST (GMT-5)
i don't think he is a 'true artist', in the sense of being an innovator, great mind, visionary, or even talented

but if he's producing 'art' for a living, then he is an artist.

I wouldn't call these art though. I'd call them just paintings. I mean, not even one of those terrible artsy crafty village galleries would hang this stuff in an exhibition.

It's a bit like asking, is the guy who paints Hollie Hobby on ornamental plates an artist?
Well, technically, yes. He makes money for it.
Is he actually producing art? No.

yeah - that's the answer:

He's an artist who doesn't produce art

18 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Friday 4/9/04 - 7:33:42 AM EST (GMT-5)
art is subjective. what i think is quality art, someone else may think is junk. that is fine since both opinions are correct. like beauty, art is in the eye of the beholder. like aburame said, if mapplethorpe is considered an artist, so are the people who "paint by numbers."
18 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Friday 4/9/04 - 5:26:06 PM EST (GMT-5)
dont they make puzzles out of those?
18 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Wednesday 5/19/04 - 10:38:42 AM EST (GMT-5)
No. A true artist does all of their work. Hes just a lazy moron that somehow gets credit.
18 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Wednesday 5/19/04 - 10:41:53 AM EST (GMT-5)
LOL.. THIS is a funny question.. my mom lovvves thomas kinkade.. she spends so much money on his paintings.. my sister does it as well. i think it is beautiful art.. and he does have a good artistic message.. but i do think the mass production of it is ludicrous
18 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Thursday 6/17/04 - 2:22:14 PM EST (GMT-5)
Hey, it's better than I could do. But I don't really know that much about his work. So I'd probably have to say yes.
18 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Thursday 6/17/04 - 2:25:40 PM EST (GMT-5)
Yeah.
