I need background noise before I can fall asleep. Complete silence is just a bit too eerie for me.

It depends. Sometimes if I have plenty of time to get to sleep a bit of background noise is soothing. If I know I'm not going to get enough sleep I tend to prefer silence.

I have a machine that similates the ocean... nah, I don't. But I sleep better when the rain is in the background. And I know what you mean smurf man, it's alot easier to sleep with a fan blowing on you.

I need backround noise. I'm a city girl so I have rain and buses. So it really don't matter to me, just as long as I have something.

Actually both. I used to live in the city with all the noise but now I live in the mountains where there is very little noise. I do like soft classical music playing to go to sleep to.
