Is it easier to forgive the Germans for the Holocaust than it is to forgive the Muslims for 9/11, because the Germans are white?

Whoa! This question's concept is so wrong on so many levels, but the main problem I have is putting out the ignorant idea that Muslims or an entire religion are responsible for 9/11.

I blame hatred for both events, not the Germans or the Muslims, but the people in power who hate other cultures and wage culture wars.

That's what I was about to say. I don't feel the need to forgive "the Muslims" or "the Germans" because these tragedies are the doing of a very very tiny percentage of these groups of people.

This is a nasty Q.

As for the Germans, most of their cities were firebombed and their people slaughtered to the point that children were forced to defend their homes with a Panzerfaust given to them at school. Just about every war criminal was captured and put on trial. That's pretty much a done deal. The world just doesn't want to see it happen again.

I've never had anything against muslims on the other hand...

Although to answer the point, I guess I would find it easier to forgive the 9/11 terrorists. Their one act, as horrible as it was, is nothing compared to the years of concentration camps and dictatorship.

agree with estella..most of the germans and muslims i've met are good people..no need to "forgive" them for the atrocities committed by nazis and terrorists..

This is a nasty question, as Lexus_lover stated.

I think there were a lot more Germans involved in perpetrating the Holocaust than Muslims in Nineleven. Still, most were unaware. I think 60 years has more to do with "forgiving" Germans, if that is what has occurred in the public eye, than their skin color.

18 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Thursday 9/25/03 - 3:24:41 AM EST (GMT-5)
Skin colour has got nothing to do with it.

To answer the question most Germans did not know the full extent of what was happening, especially because most of the extermination camps were based in Poland.
The people who should not be forgiven are those people in occupied countries who willingley helped in the slaughter and the members of the 'death squads'.
Also i don't think that you could compare the murder of 6 million jews over the period of 5 years to what Al Queda did on 9/11.

The Germans as a whole were not responsible for the holocaust. The people in power were. German civilians were mostly innocent people!

And you can't blame the whole Muslim faith for 9/11. The work of a few sick-minded people had nothing to do with them.

I love Bob Dylan, btw

The question is of course directed at people who do blame religion for the motivation of the few Muslims in Al Qeada. I don't see many people challanging the frequent statements on here that "Islam wants to destroy us because we are Chritians" or "They are trained to hate us since birth."

Or the Presidential "They hate us because they hate freedom."

However the German nation voted strongly for Adolf Hitler and clearly supported his racist policies.

The idea that "most Germans didn't know what was happening" was part of the mechanics of their swift forgivemess.

Young men recruited into the SS were victimized as guilty parties while others who could have been actively supporting the holocaust from civilian positions were ignored as a matter of expediency.

'Or the Presidential "They hate us because they hate freedom." '

That one cracks me up! Who hates freedom?? That's one of the dumbest statements I've ever heard! lol (meaning the president, not boreofu).

It seems to be some kind of cultural slight, like their culture is based upon resression and is therefore inherantly evil.

So with the Germans all that was required was to round up the ringleaders and a few bad apples but with Al Qeada the entire culture is the motivation behind their cause.

18 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Thursday 9/25/03 - 5:03:06 AM EST (GMT-5)
what entire culture?
18 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Thursday 9/25/03 - 5:10:51 AM EST (GMT-5)
The percieved culture that views freedom and the USA as it's enemy.

What ever shyte crawls into someone's brain.

it is because we pounded the Germans already now they behave.

You're the one projecting 'They' to mean Muslims.
18 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Thursday 9/25/03 - 6:14:41 AM EST (GMT-5)
must take issue with you on the statement that the german people supported hitler and his racist policies, bored.
he was never elected to anything..he was appointed chancellor then used terror tactics such as the burning of the reichstag, krystalnacht, etc to take power..
i still stand behind what i said earlier that most of the germans and muslims i've met are good people and not to blame for the actions of the nazis and terrorists.
18 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Thursday 9/25/03 - 6:17:05 AM EST (GMT-5)
in bored's defese the Nazi party was the largest party and Hindenberg appointed Hitler to create the next government in accordance with the democratic German constitution of the time.
18 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Thursday 9/25/03 - 6:24:56 AM EST (GMT-5)
And to be honest the only reason why they supported him was because his economic policies were working and unemployment had been cut drasticaly.
During the economic upturn the Nazi party actually began to lose popularity and if it wasn't for 'backstairs intrigue' and several foolish members of the esablishment such as Von Papin he would never have become leader.
18 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Thursday 9/25/03 - 6:41:38 AM EST (GMT-5)
The people who committed the attrosicites you are making reference to were the Nazi's and Terrorist's respectively.
18 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Thursday 9/25/03 - 7:00:45 AM EST (GMT-5)
No, not where I come from, most families lost a loved one in the second world war, the same can't be said for 9/11 but maybe americans will feel different.
18 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Thursday 9/25/03 - 7:07:30 AM EST (GMT-5)
Why don't we dredge up every condemnable action by every nation or people in the history of the world while we're at it? To compare atrocities of course. Then we can all go "tsk tsk" and shake our heads in disgust (or raise our fists in vengeful rage).

I find this kind of question totally pointless and unhelpful as we (all inhabitants of this planet) grapple with today's conflicts and violence.
