Quite a bit, yes. Graham Chapman did an excellent American accent in The Meaning of Life. Many have to slow down to talk American though. Most do a good job though.

That may be so, sezze, but when British people try to use an American accent, they usually have this really exaggerated Southern drawl that nobody uses, except for stereotypical white trash.

I can always spot a foreign actor doing english. They have a tiny bit of their own accent that hangs in there and doesn't ring true.

If an actor of any nationality cannot effect another accent then they shouldn't be acting!

Like seezee said, I think Americans tend to think that we only have two accents, posh and roosterney.

I thought Gillian Anderson was American too, now that's a fantastically convincing accent, I'm sure the Americans would agree.

Jolie Richardson does an excellent American accent in Nip/tuck.

Has anyone noticed in Titanic, that the characters that are supposed to be American, sound posh British?

For the most part, no, and the same goes for American actors affecting British accents. There are a few notable exceptions in both groups, but for the most part, not so good.
