Ya, the movie looks pretty cool but the books were just boring. I got them for christmas of '03 and so far i have read a total of 2 paragraphs!! WOOOO!
God, I love these books as much as I love my own ass. I'm obsessive. The movies looks delicious. Sadly, I cannot see it until Saturday!
Although I was at first shocked when they casted Jim Carrey as Count Olaf, I think he will add that drop of satire that Lemony put into his books, and cannot be duplicated on screen. The cast looks realistic, too. Violet, Klaus and Sunny look exactly as I imagined.
I am a bit disappointed that they combined the first 3 books into one movie. There are so many little things that make the books memorable that they will miss, but you can't have everything, can you?
I just got back from the theater. I'm so disappointed.
First of all, they put too must emphasis on Count Olaf. I think it's because he's a famous actor and they were trying to use his ability to liven up such a sad film.
The jokes were obvious, unlike the books with thier dark and subtle humor. The actors of Klaus and Violet were very bland, each and every line was as bland as a cracker.
I think it's impossible to capture the magic of the books on screen. It was a bad idea to make it into a movie. I recommend it to NO ONE who enjoyed the book.
I really liked it. Although it was very Hollywood, and many of the jokes were lame (c'mon, the captions at the bottom whenever the baby gooed? Those were obviously terrible), I loved it for the escape aspect. The abundance of eccentric characters was enjoyable, and the cinematography was just awesome.
The acting was a little bland, along with what seemed to be an incomplete storyline, but it was too pretty and adventurous to not be loveable.
(This is coming from somebody who has yet to read the books. I could just as well have been tipped if I had read them first).
When I first heard that there was going to be a movie based on the book series, I kind of hoped it would be like another Harry Potter. But I think Jim Carrey is going to ruin the movie. But I still want to see it.
But I am terribly confused by the ending. What did it all mean? So the parents and the aunt and uncle were investigating fires of some kind, and that eye thing...did they set their own house on fire?
I liked the movie. ESpecially Klaus. Liam Aiken...hottie!!! I love him! He's my new obsession. I just wish he would have taken off his shirt sometime...
