It's clear they are setting up a massive crossover universe similar to Marvel.... but looks like it could be a fun ride.
This was my GFs first SW film and she loved it, especially as you didn't have to refer to some bullpoo lore to understand any of it. Oh and before the "lol has she been living under a rock" crowd appear her Hollywood is Bollywood.

We saw it today and we loved it.
The way I know if I *really* enjoyed a movie is if I never look at my watch to check the time and it certainly passed that test. The plot is good, the pacing is pretty good, and the casting was just great. I saw people saying that it takes a little time to buy Alden as Han, but that you get there, but I bought it pretty early on and I really liked him in this. Donald Glover was great as Lando, too, and I really enjoyed Woody Harrelson and Emilia Clarke as well. LOVED seeing when Han and Chewy met. cuck thought the space octopus was kinda silly and I have to agree with that. I'd be cool if they made more Solo movies, tbh.
If TLJ left a bad taste in your mouth, DO NOT miss this one because of that because it's super fun.

Emilia Clarke is darling.
I also loved
seeing how han and chewy met
But as rag said
the space octopus was goofy

Care to elaborate on that?
What didn't you like?

It was a solid, little space western.
Neither great nor terrible.
A train job, a heist, a double-double cross.
Standard checking of fan service boxes -show the dice -han and chewie meet - show the kessel run - show han winning the falcon in a card game -got it all? -roll credits
Meh.

I wanted all those things.
Seriously, though, I don't think you can ever please everybody when it comes to SW, especially. If it's too familiar, it gets complaints and if it's too different, it gets complaints. I think it sways toward the familiar for the case of pleasing the most people, however.

i thought this was really bad
the only thing i really enjoyed was the cast and that batsh-t cameo
but man, the writing, pacing, and plotting were awful
it felt like really clunky fanfiction
with no tension or passion or wit
it was boring, obvious, and way too safe
is this what people wanted from Last Jedi? really egregious fan service and spoon feeding? Last Jedi had a lot of flaws but it at least attempted something different and more challenging

(and again, loved the cast work. even Clarke, who is regularly Bad At Acting, did a really solid job. and there were some decent jokes and a couple decent set pieces, but it wasn't nearly enough to keep this thing afloat)

The cameo's not that batsh*t if you've watched the cartoon series, apparently. That possibility had never crossed my mind, tbh.
Here's a problem with the newer SW movies, in my mind, after delving into this world for the last 6 months- when you don't spoon feed a good part of the audience AND give them something familiar, they don't accept what's clearly being presented to them. I take the hints I'm given, personally.

There's a lot of nuance in TFA and TLJ and a lot of folks can't handle it.

That wasn't even remotely a sneak.
The music swells when you first see him.

Back to TLJ, different is only good if it works. Parts of that movie just don't plain work. In contrast, some parts are excellent, but.
I'll take something "boring" if it's fun over weird and nonsensical any day.
I don't hate TLJ, but it pales in comparison to TFA, which I absolutely love.

its not the first time warwick has appeared in human form in SW.
TLJ was a poorly written mess with a lack of logic. TFA was a fun retread and laid down some interesting plot lines. Shame TLJ squandered a lot of that potential and good will.

I'm right there with you on all that, tbh. I really enjoyed the following in TLJ: the force bond scenes, the throne room sequence, and the battle on Crait. The rest of it was kind of a mess.

Ain't that the truth.
And in some cases, toxic manbaby fanboys harass a perfectly lovely actress because they don't like her character, to the point that she feels she has to leave social media entirely.

I don’t know exactly what happened with that, but her character made Jar Jar Binks performance Oscar worthy
