So something to remember is, which Orion mentioned above if you bothered to read it, is that sometimes stories/plot points from the EU are sourced for something like this, so what you might see as a grab out of thin air for no reason is actually something that's already been established to the faction of fans that partake in the EU material, dice included, I believe.
It's kind of hard to fathom why people have gotten all up in arms over a set of dice, tbh.

I just honestly don’t know why they spent multiple shots on it
ultimately I’m glad this movie did so poorly at the box office
hopefully this forces disney to be more thoughtful on how they are making these movies rather than just cranking them out once or twice a year
A lot of people did really enjoy the movie, but the timing of release was definitely way off. Way too soon after TLJ and the promotion wasn't great, either.
