I wouldn't be so sure about that. Best Picture tends to mean the most boring.

Titanic
Dances with wolves
Million dollar baby
Chicago
Chariots of fire (And they overplayed the cornball song on radio too. That probably doesn't help)

Wow, why all the hate for Chicago? Do you guys just not like musicals in general? Because if that's the case, a lot worse ones have won Best Picture than Chicago.

I was okay with Sound of Music and West Side Story.
Didn't like plot. None of the performers pulled it off. Was really disappointed because of how much this was hyped.

Wow, I just really couldn't disagree more on either of those points! I loved the musical itself to start with, and thought the performers mostly did a great job.

No, I don't think it was even nominated for that, though I could be wrong.
I saw it on Broadway and it was an absolutely beautiful show. I love the book as well (it was one of my grandfather's favorite novels).
Parts of the movie version were OK, but other parts (and castings) were holy sh*t terrible.

I liked the one with Liam Neeson as Jean Valjean back in the 90s much better than the one 6- 7 years ago that got a bunch of nominations (including best picture, I think) I don't think any version of it won best picture.
