I definitely want to go and see this over the weekend. I've always liked movies about real-life events.

I feel like it's going to be 1/2 hour of action and 1 and 1/2 hours of boredom.

Looks like standard God Bless America fare full of that 'our most trying hour' kind of tone.

I hate to say this because it sounds bitchy, but of all the air emergency shows I've watched, there are pilots who had to employ WAY more skill at very high altitude (after losing most or all hydraulics) and weren't able to save everyone, but it was an absolute miracle they were able to save anyone. Not to negate this experience, but I just have never found it too interesting.

What made his so amazing was that it was in NYC. There aren't many places to land in a pinch without putting many people in harms way on the ground alone.
Also, it was super cold out that day.
It's a miracle no one died from falling in the water alone during the exit.

Anyone else find it weird that a plane crash film is out two days before September 11?

I bought my tickets online for tomorrow. And I'm getting a free Nook download of the Sully book because I bought them thru my Fandango VIP account.

Hope this movie doesn't make me afraid to fly next year. Even if I am scared, though, I'm going. Even if I have to white-knuckle the whole time!

Wasn't a crash.

I get that, but total hydraulic failure is way more impressive to not die from, that's all I'm sayin'.

Exactly what I wanted to say. I suppose it could possibly be called a crash landing which I believe my aunt who was a flight attendant said is a term they don't like to use anymore. If a pilot were to announce that he was going to make "a crash landing" all people would hear is "crash" and there would be even more of a panic. Although I don't see how "Brace for impact" is any less unnerving. Oh and BTW, said aunt actually knows the real Sully. No, she was not on THAT flight. Not even sure if she ever worked on any of his flights, but she did know him as she worked for US Airways for many years. She only retired a few years ago.

Oh, and I enjoyed the movie. I kick out of the end when
The first officer was asked if he would have done anything differently and he said "Yes. I would have done it in July." Wonder if the real Jeff Stiles actually said that at the hearing. I especially liked the little bits during the credits where they had some of the actual passengers that were on that flight and they were saying what seat they'd been on and they showed the real Chesley Sullenberger. They did a good job of making Tom Hanks and those playing his first officer and flight attendants look like the real people.

This was kind of a mess. The pacing was all weird, and some of the dialogue was downright terrible. Tom Hanks was great, but I was super unimpressed as a whole.

Right?! Like Denzel in Flight. While drinking! Dude's a pro.

I generally don't like Clint Eastwood as a director, though there are some exceptions.

I enjoyed Flight, but what was portrayed in that movie isn't even remotely possible.
