Amazed no-one added this before me. It got a national release here and everything...

On the other hand, it is a piece of s**t.

For at least the first full hour *nothing* happens. It's interminable.
The characters are so horrible me and Estella were really hoping they all got killed in the most horrible ways possible...

They should have had the comment at the start another movie recently had. "Based on a true story. ...sort of."

It's taken a couple of recent stories of attacks in australia, and then all they've taken from that is tha idea of people getting abducted by a psycho in the outback. That's it. The rest is a Texas chainsaw massacre rip-off, which is exploitative of the real story at best.

ABSolute garbage. Don't waste your money.

Interesting, this is the first bad review I've heard for Wolf Creek. Although we in Australia are yet to see it. It's release has been delayed because the Peter Falconio murder trial is still on. Anyone else got anything to say on the film.

I saw Wolf Creek today and from an Australian's point of view, this movie is a high rater. Not because of it's violence but because of it's accuracy. It shows EXACTLY what travelling through the outback is like. It's shows it's vastness, it's isolation, the distance involved and what the shanty towns really look like. The portrayal of time is important because explains how this guy gets away with it. Put simply, there are too many thousands of Kilometres to search in order to find him. You wouldn't even know where to start looking. This is especially strong during the night time car-towing scene.

It wasn't anything like Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Wolf Creek never claimed to be a Slasher movie (although I don't know how it's marketed in the US and Europe). The movie is very accurate to recent backpacker murders here. Quite chilling and upsetting.

WARNING - CONTAINS SPOILERS

I liked the first half of 'Wolf Creek' a lot. Visually, it was stunning (it made me want to go motoring up in the Top End), and with great subtlety it shifted from a pleasant mood of holiday ambience to one of creepy menace, and then awful terror...

...but from when the two girls made their initial escape, 'Wolf Creek' pressed the button marked STUPID and held it down until the end. It became increasingly ridiculous and unconvincing, like a bad slasher film.

That was a pity, because that crumminess undermined all the good work done in the first half of the film, and John Jarratt gave a tremendous performance as the killer.

I loved the 'No Bullsh*t' directing. Most, if not all, Australian films are realistic and hardhitting. There's no farting around.
You don't need high budget special effects when you can do it all in real life.

The script was realistic...There was nothing really added in or taken out...Oddities and awkward speech was kept in as it would be in real life. Makes everything so much more effective. Injuries were gorey, but not shoved in your face as an obvious veiw point, they were shown subtly. The plot was simple, but not predictable.

I liked it. Gruesome, inventive and real.

I liked it.
It was freaky.

I fell asleep.

Oh what a great idea, after you flee the place where your friend was sexually tortured, go back and watch camcorder footage while a serial killer is wandering around outside. Did this woman not think to arm herself?!

However, that guy in it was really sexy, mmmm. There was that one shot of him shirtless in the beginning, hubbahubba.

One thing I don't like about horror films is when you feel constant despair for the victims without a sense of purpose. There should be a sense that they can triumph (even if they can't), or at the very least that an outside force will save them (Silence of the Lambs). For a while it seemed okay, like there was hope, but later the movie felt cheap and lurid. Above all else, in horror films I don't want to feel like a passive spectator who watches people being hurt. You watch for the thrill of escape.

Oh well.

It was ok, nothing special.

It looked good, but its not my taste. I like comedy movies.

For me, it just seemed to portray how boring it would be to travel hunderds of miles through a deserted area. Making the journey appear dull may be accurate, but it's still dull.

Again, realistic, but not good in a film. It *is* awkward, and it damages the suspension of disbelief. If you're watching a film and someone says something like "Wow, this feels like the plot of a really bad movie", then...

16 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Wednesday 1/11/06 - 5:26:12 AM EST (GMT-5)
...it might be something someone would really say, but it also makes you acutely aware you're watching a film, and it jars.
16 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Wednesday 1/11/06 - 8:18:12 AM EST (GMT-5)
Wuh? How can something be both realistic and damaging to suspension of disbelief?
16 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Saturday 1/14/06 - 7:23:58 PM EST (GMT-5)
Because the situations in films are often unrealistic or unlikely, or otherwise noteworthy, so addressing that fact would be realistic, but draw attention to the fact that you're watching a film, rather than immersing you in the story.
16 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Saturday 1/28/06 - 2:10:19 PM EST (GMT-5)
It was a bit dull until the last 40 minutes or so when it kicked into gear.

I wanted the cute girl to survive. But no, she got shot in the head. Joy.

It was average really. It really should have set into motion a lot earlier.

when i saw that the two women died and he got free, i thought "am i the only one who thinks he made up a bunch of bullsh*t and got free?" then they flashed it on the screen that he had been held in police custody for 4 months and the authorities never found the spot mentioned..
*still* think he was the culprit here..

Completely agree!! I just told my sister the exact thing tonight.

One thing that really bothered me is how it's based on true facts, the girls have never been found, but they show how they got killed? It was just stupid.

I thought it was pretty good, till the end anyway...

I think the killer was really good.

The plot was good till as someone above said they switched on the stupid bastard button and did things which no one would ever do.

It's sort of a cross between a suspense movie and a slasher and it doesn't really work.

However if there's nothing else on telly i'd probably give it a watch.

I watched the director's cut (trust me it wasn't any better) and in one scene after the stupid moron goes back to the place and she's looking at all the stuff, she picks up a gun and puts it in the back of her pants, but than that's all you see of it, she never tried to use it and you never see it again. Overall, this movie just pissed me off.

Bah! No gore, waaaaay dragged out and unoriginal. What a pile.
15 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Wednesday 7/12/06 - 6:04:47 PM EST (GMT-5)
I turned it off about 10 minutes through.
15 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Thursday 7/13/06 - 12:43:47 AM EST (GMT-5)
I kept waiting for something, ANYTHING to happen. I should have turned it off 10 minutes it, but like I said, I was waiting for something.
A friend told me she thought it was a really good movie, so I rented it. NEVER again will I trust her taste in movies.

It was terrible. The first hour was incredibly boring and uneventful. The rest of it was too gruesome for my taste, and not enough suspense and scary moments.
Everyone was always talking about the accuracy of this movie. But if the bodies were never found, how did the producers know exactly how the girls were killed? Stupidity at it's best.
This movie was a complete waste of time and money. It was crap.
14 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Friday 7/27/07 - 6:45:52 PM EST (GMT-5)
Horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE movie.

I was SO bored and then when sh*t actually DID start happening, I was even MORE bored.

What the hell was the point of it?

14 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Friday 7/27/07 - 7:26:20 PM EST (GMT-5)
It's just like every other slasher movie. Except much worse.
It's pretty much a piece of crap.
