not kurosawa's strongest realisation, some of the short stories actually fall short. But some of them are pure delight of movie making, definitely a director with personality, there's some 'eternal' beauty in that film, and even when it's slow, it never feels boring.
I got that poster from a video rental place and had it on my bedroom wall all through college. then when I finally went to watch the actual movie, I fell asleep
I LOVE Kurosawa. And I adore dreamy and surreal stuff. So imagine my joy on discovering that this movie existed.
Then imagine my disappointment when it turns out to be TERRIBLE. Well, all that I've watched so far. I had to stop after the frankly embarrassing Crows. I managed to sit through the Fantastic Four sequel, but here I'm watching a director I love embarrass himself.
That's too harsh. But seriously, it's just such a drop coming straight from watching Yojimbo and Rashomon. What went wrong? They're sappy, self-indulgent, obvious, the music is corny, it's all so.....gah! Just not Kurosawa! It reminded me more of bad Spielberg or something.

("they're" referring to these stories encapsulated in this movie, obviously not Rashomon and Yojimbo)
