I can't wait, this is coming out to the theaters tomorrow!! Allthough, it doesn't look like it's playing anywhere near me.

anime, yes?
19 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Thursday 9/19/02 - 3:07:11 PM EST (GMT-5)
I was about to try putting this up!! I doubt it will be released in the cinema over here, but it's available on DVD in Japan with English subs, so I guess I'll opt for that. Guerrilla: Yes, Studio Ghibli.

Ahh. Wonderful. I should put up an anime a friend did the music for.

kaneda, it probably will. I mean, it's being released here in the US and Disney is in charge or worldwide distribution so the chances are, you may see it.

Blank: We didn't see Mononoke or Laputa.

Anime is just NOT popular over here.

great movie,i thought it was excellent.the only thing i didnt like was that they didn't really go into much detail about No Face, but besides that i loved it.required vewing for anyone who likes anime(kaneda and blank)

This movie was awesome. I went all the way into Philly to see it, and I think I'll go again tomorrow.

I saw it yesterday. It was absolutely awesome. Especially the chase scene with No Face chasing Sen down the stairs and throwing up on the way. Very realistic. But I like all of Miyazaki's stuff like Mononoke no Hime (Princess Mononoke) and Kaze no Tani no Nausicaa (Nausicaa of the Wind Valley). I speak Japanese, so I want to get the original on DVD. I think that they did a good job on the dubbing though. Usually dubbing stinks.

It's quite good, but I just didn't enjoy it as much as Miyazaki's other films. There is too much re-used imagery from his previous films and the movie doesn't seem to go anywhere. I was disappointed. :(

I thought it was fantastic! If you have ever lived in Japan, you will recognize how it is completely culturally relevent to Japanese society, but maybe not to Western ways of perceiving the spirit world. I especially love the bath house for the spirits. Very well done and I recommend it to all.

Perhaps I just didn't like it as much because it wasn't as international as his previous films. As part of my university course I'll be in Japan for a year next year, so perhaps once I've spent time there I might enjoy it more.

Saw it tonight. Thought it was very good. Not great, but very good. Not getting the whole "best movie of the year" thing, but certainly ONE of the best films I've seen this year. Truly bizarre, yet reminiscent of traditional art, particularly the twin sister witches, who reminded me so much of the classic illustrations seen in the books of Lewis Carroll. It angers me that Disney has not put much effort in promoting this and, instead, spends millions promoting dreck like "Treasure Planet" or "Lilo & Stitch". I suspect this would have been a substantial hit had they not tried to keep it on the art house level. I guess they didn't like the competition, so they just bought them out. Sad.

Paul: Currently Disney holds the release rights to most of the Ghibli films. Has done for about 5 years now, but they're keeping them low key so the their fans don't realise how good anime can be and turn away from American animation.

I just saw this movie. It was really good! Kaneda, you make it seem like you disliked the movie, because other people won't really know that you're just comparing it to other awesome, awesome films. This was the best movie I've seen for a couple years, besides maybe Princess Mononoke, which I think is by the same people.
19 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Saturday 3/29/03 - 4:45:59 PM EST (GMT-5)
Mambo: They're both made by Sutdio Ghibli, and Spirited Away and Mononoke were created and directed by Hayao Miyazaki. Arguably the best movies in the world.

exactly!

Excellent movie. Not my favorite of Miyazaki's, but all his work is above just about anyone else's.

I want to see it, but Kentucky is very conservative and not culturally diverse, so it never played here...
19 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Saturday 3/29/03 - 10:33:53 PM EST (GMT-5)
Ummm...I live in Kentucky and saw it here. Pretty sad when the actual CITIZENS believe in the stereotypes...
19 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Saturday 3/29/03 - 10:55:20 PM EST (GMT-5)
i really wanna see this in theatres,is so sad that none of the three major theatres in colorado dont carry it
19 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Sunday 3/30/03 - 2:07:42 AM EST (GMT-5)
Trips: If none of them don't carry it, then all of them show it....
19 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Sunday 4/6/03 - 8:55:32 PM EST (GMT-5)
Wow, they finally decided to play it at a theatre near here! I guess it took the Academy Award for them to do that... Another Miyazaki masterpiece, although not his best. Paul: At the school I go to, the conservative, Bible-belt stereotype is quite true, unfortunately. Maybe it's different with the older population.
19 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Sunday 4/6/03 - 8:57:35 PM EST (GMT-5)
Trips: I wish it went into more detail about No Face, too... I'm still confused about it...
