This movie is so unbelievably well done. I have never seen such cinematography used the way it is in this movie. i especially love when Burstyn is sitting in front of her coffee, grapefruit and egg and how it all disappears. very well done. I can honestly say that i have never had a movie jerk my emotions around as much as this one. Even from the beginning a heavy tone was set and by the end i was streaming tears for about half an hour. This movie holds a definite place on my favorite movie list and i highly suggest that people watch it. especially if you are thinking of taking dieting pills or doing heroine. I recomend this to anyone.

This movie is awesome. I love how it shows how anything can be addicting.

I freaking LOVE this movie. I rented it only because I'm a fan of Jared Leto....but now I'm also a fan of this movie. To all the people commenting on the anti-drug thing: Sure, that's not all the movie's about, but take it from a high schooler, I think showing it in schools would be a whole lot better than what they're doing these days in the ways of anti-drug programs, which consists basically of hanging a few posters in the hallways.

I can't stand this movie. Honestly, I can't. I saw it and I just wanted to puke or go to sleep the whole time. I thought it was boring, pointless, the way it was filmed made me nauteaus, I just didn't like it at all.

Ug, I did not like this movie either. It creeped me out, especially with the intravenous drug use. That was disgusting. And the bit about the shock therapy freaked me out. I don't care if I never see this movie again.

I thought this was a fantastic film. The way it was presented apart from the themes and plot line was wonderful. I'm just a sucker for the usage of split screens.

As far as the anti-drug deal, I think it was just presenting the lifestyle and left the opinion of the lifestyle up to the audience.

Burysten did an AMAZING job!

This movie was amazing! but a bit disturbing

one of the most beautiful yet disturbing films i have seen.

This was completely insane! The movie made a good point. It was very very disturbing, and quite depressing. Pretty graphic, in more than just violence. Like that "ass to ass" scene looked like something out of a hardcore cinema for adult viewingo. When they showed his arm, that was disgusting. And when she stabbed him in the hand with the fork.

What I learned from the movie:
Don't do drugs
Don't go on diets, or at least trust low quality doctors
Don't live in a small depressing house

For some reason, I liked this movie.

I think the movie wasn't anti-drug so much as 'anti-addiction'.

I think it was anti-drug. They showed marijuana, and marijuana isn't chemically addictive.

Did anyone else see a relation to the matrix?
Like that scene at the end where they're sitting on the bench. And when the lady in the red dress is walking down the street, everyone else in black. And when the girl goes to Little john's house to give him oral sex, he remninded me of Morphious.

Uhm, neither is Television or Money.

You obviously didn't get the point of this movie.

Requiem was written years before the Matrix.

i always thought it was about how people can get addicted to anything, whether it be drugs or like the director said in some interview i saw, even hope.

Yes it was Momus.

And I did get the point, I could feel it throughout the whole movie.

To say it's anti-drugs is to notice only one aspect of a fantastic, fantastic film.
The title sort of sums it up.

'Requiem for a dream'

It's about four people who each have a dream, but can't let go and fall into a cycle of destruction the likes of which I've never seen in cinema. The obsession caused by their dreams is their own addiction which causes their downfall.

I bought this film on DVD, even though I know it's too harrowing for me to watch again, simply because when I hear someone hasn't seen it, I have to lend it to them immidiately.

Have you ever seen a hardcore cinema for adult viewingo Joe? A couple of girls with their asses touching doesnt qualify, especially in the context. I dont think it was graphic at all.

Its one of the only films Ive seen where the acting overshadows the rest of the film. All of them are fantastic.

18 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Friday 2/13/04 - 6:49:18 PM EST (GMT-5)
Floor, it wasn't the asses so much as the huge black dildo they were keeping up with the smacking.
Didn't you see the directors cut?
18 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Saturday 2/14/04 - 4:08:37 AM EST (GMT-5)
Yes, I still wouldnt call it graphic in the context though. It doesnt qualify as hardcore cinema for adult viewingography.
18 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Saturday 2/14/04 - 4:55:09 PM EST (GMT-5)
Yes it does.
18 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Sunday 2/15/04 - 3:28:35 AM EST (GMT-5)
Nah, the only credible film Ive seen that qualifies as hardcore in my eyes is "Baisse moi".
18 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Wednesday 2/18/04 - 6:36:56 PM EST (GMT-5)
I recommend this movie ONLY - AND I STRESS ONLY - if you are not a newly recovering IV drug user. It's stark and utterly realistic and cuts close to the bone of addiction, the act of shooting up, and the highs and horrific lows of it.
I watched it once and came away with my veins throbbing and seriously jonesing. However, I can't deny it - Requiem for a Dream was one of the best crafted movies of it's kind.
18 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Tuesday 3/30/04 - 11:28:23 AM EST (GMT-5)
This movie is not depressing as much as it is disturbing.

Don't view it just before you go to bed. You won't sleep well.

Be sure to look closely at Jennifer Connelly's "full frontal" in the mirror. She needs a good trimming because at first I thought she was wearing black panties.

Best scene is when Harry (Leto) goes to visit his mother (Burstyn) and he tells her about the tv he's going to buy. Phenominal acting.

While you're watching it, don't forget that Julia Roberts (in Erin Brokovich) beat out Ellen Burstyn in this movie for the Best Actress win. Then, when the movie is over, your discussion can be about "why Burstyn got robbed."
