He over reacted but the situation was looking as though it was getting out of control. And WTF man, this must have been one of the most ineffective cops out there.

She stepped in and shoved the police officer.. If you have any sense whatsoever, you know that's not something that will be taken lightly.
I once witnessed something almost exactly like the way this went down. A woman returned to her car to find it was about to be towed, she flipped out and assaulted the tow-truck driver when he wouldn't unhitch her car. Then when the cop arrived they got into a big scuffle exactly like in this video.. Ending in her arrest.
Never ever resist a police officer regardless of what you did/didn't do.. It will only make things worse.

It seems like she could have been restrained in other ways. Punching a woman in the face can't possibly be the first thing it says to do in the police handbook.

I don't think it is the first thing. I think that the woman was escalating the situation. He needed to learn some better submission techniques. But from the cop shows I have watched, women are the hardest to tame. They're crazy!

I agree. But situation's like that can get out of hand incredibly quickly, especially when there's a crowd gathering. It's not as clear-cut as 'follow the handbook' when you're adrenaline is pumping and you're trying to remain in control of a situation with spectators getting emotional and intervening.
I'm not saying what he did was right. If there was more than one officer present to keep order amongst the crowd, then it never would have happened. But he was alone and probably just panicked and reacted.

Well it took him forever to just control the woman in the black shirt, let alone another woman trying to interfere. I couldn't have done any better but he wasn't doing a good job at all. I think people call police brutality on cops way too soon, I mean it was that woman's fault to try to interfere.
Since we can't really tell whats going on in the beginning of the video, I presume the cop stopped her for jaywalking, maybe not even give her a ticket. It just happens too often where people get arrested for fighting a cop when they wouldn't have even gotten in trouble in the first place. |

They are lucky they didn't get shot. They resisted arrest and assaulted a police officer. He was by himself surrounded by a growing mob. While he sucks at being a police officer, he has to protect himself, and his firearm. That being said, because of the society we live in, these idiots will probably get a multi-million dollar settlement in the end.

I think just the disproportionate amount of time it took the cop to arrest the woman in black shows that he has no idea what he's doing. They need to send him back to police training.
