They were pretty good for such a short lived band. How many albums did they have?

They released 2 during Brad's lifetime, 40 Ounces To Freedom and Robbin The Hood. The self-titled CD came out shortly after his death. After he died the band still had some obligations to fufill for the record company so they released a collection of unreleased material that was mostly culled from the bootleg Sensimilla and called it "SecondHand Smoke." Also coming out after Brads death was a tiny collection severely mislabeled "greatest hits" and also a nice little acoustic album aptly titled "bradley nowell and friends acoustic" or something like that. The only thing released since then I believe was another crappy greatest hits that had mostly the same tracks as the first one.

If you had to make a Sublime Greatest Hits album, with say, 16 songs, what would it like. Incorporating your favorites, and stuff that was the most popular. Mine would look like this. 1. Garden Grove 2. Wrong Way 3. What I Got 4. April 26, 1992 (Miami) 5. Caress Me Down 6. Doin' Time 7. Pawn Shop 8. Santeria (Yeah, I know that's too many form that album ) 9. 40 Oz. To Freedom 10. Smoke Two Joints 11. Scarlet Begonias 12. DateRape 13. Badfish 14. All You Need 15. Work That We Do 16. Poolshark [Live]

Hmm...I did a thread called make your own greatest hits album for your favorite groups or something a while back. Mine at the moment would be: 1)Pass Me The Lazerbeam (bum$lie bootleg) 2)Santeria (Sublime) 3)Doin' Time (Sublime) 4)Wrong Way (Sublime) 5)What I Got (Sublime) 6)Let's Go Get Stoned (40 Oz.) 7)Greatest Hits (Robbin' The Hood) 8)Thanx Dub (Secondhand Smoke) 9)DJs (40 Oz.) 10)Legalize It (Pure Anus bootleg) 11)STP (Robbin The Hood) 12)New Realization (Secondhand Smoke) 13)Get Out (original 40 Oz.) 14)Work That We Do (Robbin The Hood) 15)Get Ready (Sublime) 16)Waiting For Bud (Robbin The Hood)

Stylee, I still don't really understand what "Second Hand Smoke" was? Where did those songs come from? And, is it any good. Because thats the only album besides the Greatest Hits that I don't have.

The poetry of that song is unmatched. "I can't take pity on men of his kind/even though he now takes it in the behind/Date Rape!" It's catchy but the band grew to hate it.

The band grew to hate it? why?

SecondHand Smoke is a bunch of songs that were previously unreleased, studio outtakes and such that they didn't think fit on the previous albums. Most of these songs were on bootleg albums like bum$lie, Sensimilla, Pure Anus. There are some great parts to it, like New Realization, the original version of Don't Push, the dub version of "Thanx" but there are plenty of songs we didn't need. In particular "Garbage Grove" and "April 29,1992 (Leary)." I'd buy it if you really liked the band, but realize you're getting some crap too.

Most bands grow to hate songs that are as freaking catchy as Date Rape was. I think it makes them feel cheap.

sublimearchive.com is the best place to download unreleased stuff that's mostly unavailable anywhere else.

Their cover of Scarlet Begonias rocks.

I love their version of it, but that's one song that I think the original band did even better on. The Dead's song is just so...sublime that it outdistances almost anything else I've heard. trivia bonus: who sang most of sublimes lead vocal on scarlet begonias?

Oh, I absolutely agree, stylee. It's my favorite song by the Dead, but I don't know who sang the lead vocals on the cover by Sublime. Ask Billy, he'll know.

I'm not really that knowledgable about the Dead (ie I know almost nothing else by them). Do they have anything else that sounds remotely like Scarlet Begonias?

I'll take a wild guess on this one. Whoever it is, that is the only thing I don't like about it. The guy who's singing it. Is it drummer, Gaugh?

"Smoke Two Joints" is a good high song. It's not that good of a song, in my opinion, just for that.

Stylee, The Dead's sound is pretty unique on a lot of their songs. A song taht sounds similar to Scarlet Begonias. Hmm, how bout... Bertha. Yeah, try givin that song a shot.
