So, I interviewed for a fellowship at a university and they asked me the standard where I see myself in five years. I don't know. I think I want to have a family but maybe not. I think I want to keep doing research but don't know. Some have very specific long-term plans. I don't.

Where do you see yourself in the future? What do you want out of life?

I hate when they ask that question I wanna strangle them so bad who actually knows where they want to, or wanna be in 5 years I don't understand

I see myself working entry-level jobs that any high school grad could get despite having more than five years of experience and a Master's degree.

Lots of companies value employees that have some sense of ambition and direction in their lives.

I was thinking more about y time before YT, when I was around your age.

I used to mention the FE exam I had passed and the required training for the PE that I was looking to acquire. I don’t like the question either though. I feel like a lot of times the job market is so intimidating that I’m under the impression that I might be able to counter that question with where are the staffing agencies and HR manipulators going to have me tucked away in five years.

Working the same job with everything but the house paid off

lol That would have been funny. I knew they were looking for someone that will publish and be willing to stay for at least a few years so I gave them the generic expected answers and they seemed satisfied.

It can be difficult to plan a future when most of us are just trying to survive and meet family obligations and pay the rent/mortgage like snarf and Inquizitor2 said.

I guess I could say I might want to move from rent to mortgage.

Meeting someone would be nice as well but from most perspectives seems nearly impossible these days.

I read there are five million more job openings than unemployed in the US. Depending on the job, you might be able to ask HR questions about their long term plans for you.

I’m with a staffing agency at the moment so I’m under the impression that that conversation might be happening behind my back.

God yeah. I’m just cracking on day by day, whilst trying to have as little regrets as possible

Just filled my car with gas and it was almost $100.00! I am in the process of moving because I received the fellowship and can't find any places for rent.
