The Michigan Supreme Court ruled Thursday that a ballot measure that would enshrine abortion access in the state constitution must be added to the November ballot. The Board of State Canvassers had been deadlocked on certifying the more than 750,000 signatures gathered to get the Michigan Right to Reproductive Freedom Initiative on the ballot, forcing the state's highest court to step in.
Michigan is one of several states putting abortion on the ballot this fall after the US Supreme Court's ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization ended the federal right to an abortion. Voter initiatives in Kentucky and Montana could further restrict abortion access while those in Vermont and California could codify abortion protections in their state constitutions.

61% majority of U.S. adults say abortion should be legal in all or most cases, while 37% think abortion should be illegal in all or most cases.

We really need to take back our country and stop the fringe minority from trying to force their extreme views on the majority

It's funny that they call it the "Right to Reproductive Freedom Initiative". Why don't they just call it what it is, The Right to Abortion Initiative. Or better yet, The Right to Kill your Baby initiative.

The same reason nobody calls your breath "pleasant."

Two Republican members of the state board tried to block the proposed ballot because they, like many Republicans, do not believe in freedom of choice or fair elections (democracy).

The Michigan Supreme Court’s emergency ruling overrides last week’s party-line tie vote by the Board of State Canvassers, which blocked the certification of the proposed constitutional amendment. The two Republicans on that panel sided with conservative groups that argued spacing and formatting errors on the text canvassers presented to voters rendered the entire effort invalid.

Chief Justice Bridget McCormack blasted those officials for that decision, writing in her ruling Thursday: “Seven hundred fifty three thousand and seven hundred fifty nine Michiganders signed this proposal—more than have ever signed any proposal in Michigan’s history.

The challengers have not produced a single signer who claims to have been confused by the limited-spacing sections in the full text portion of the proposal. Yet two members of the Board of State Canvassers would prevent the people of Michigan from voting on the proposal.”

Republicans don't care about democracy, they care about getting what they want and they know that their party is going away within the next 5 years due to democratic age out (which is the nice way of saying that their voter base is dying way faster than they can get new voters because they act like a bunch of childish asshxles). Let them throw their tantrums, because if Democrats don't have a national abortion law passed then that's on them and it'll only be another 5 years before every single state supreme court switches back to mandatory legal abortion access as a right because having it any other way will completely fxck up the way we process murder convictions.

This is just a way for a generation of dying old fxckers who failed their way through life to feel like they're riding into the sunset while all they're doing is failing is all yet again.
