Elon Musk has lost his position as Twitter's largest shareholder as he attempts to buy the company in a $43 billion deal.

The Tesla and SpaceX boss said in early April he had become Twitter's largest shareholder, having built a 9.2% stake in the micro-blogging platform.

However, he has now lost the top spot, as asset manager Vanguard Group said in a filing lodged recently with the Securities and Exchange Commission that, as of April 8, its funds now own a 10.3% stake in the company that is worth $3.6 billion based on Friday's close.

The filing shows Vanguard increased its stake in Twitter over the course of the first quarter.

On Thursday, the world's richest man unveiled a $43 billion bid for the entire company, in a take-it-or-leave-it offer.

kind of funny how some liberals don't like elon musk yet are completely silent over asset management companies taking over. not sure what they really stand for anymore now that trump isn't around to be their punching bag.

I’d rather have an asset management company own Twitter than a person who sees himself as some kind of demigod.

I don’t think Elon is done yet. He probably has a plan B.

You guys realize that neither the asset management company nor the billionare would be running the Twitter, right?

If Musk buys Twitter he would be running it.

Perhaps, except that Musk doesn't have the financing (according to him) to purchase it - just like when he was going to 'take Tesla private' - it's contingent on "completion of anticipated financing" which he hasn't elaborated on and (most likely) once again doesn't have.

It's almost as if he makes these claims to cause fluctiations in the stock prices.

Oh, wait.

Elon Musk said to be willing to invest $15 billion of his own money to buy Twitter

Bulk of $43 billion buyout bid would come from outside financing — if it can be raised

if he's serious about making it a free speech platform, i'm all for using it more myself. facebook is getting ridiculous with moderation and i'm only there to talk to family and friends.

I don’t care.

Big Tech has bottomless unstable profits and is promoting itself. It’s ridiculous, meaningless, and a waste of people’s time talking about it.

Elon Musk is just a figurehead of Big Tech. Just as bad as Trump being the social media hashtag of conservatives. Politics is becoming detached from reality.

If you don’t think that the guy who believes we have to colonize Mars because of global warming is a political figurehead I really don’t think you’re paying attention.

The liberal media tells liberals what to stand for. It can change hourly.

I was in a previous life. Now I run ski areas.

(I also used talk-to-text there)

Fair enough- - talk to text does do some things poorly.
