Oct 21 (Reuters) - Actor Alec Baldwin fired a prop gun on a movie set in New Mexico on Thursday, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza, authorities said.

The incident occurred on the set of independent feature film "Rust," the Santa Fe County Sheriff's office said in a statement, at the Bonanza Creek Ranch, a production location south of Santa Fe.

I honestly think given todays current political climate that someone knowingly put a live round in the gun.

This entire story is nuts.

Some crew had just walked off the set before this because of safety (among other) concerns.

How stupid do you need to be to take a weapon off someone and not check for yourself whether it’s loaded or not?

The only dangerous part of a firearm is the nut on the trigger.

if you arnt into guns or have no experience with them you might not know the rules.

I dont know poo about movies but also I wonder if there is some on set rule about it.

Of course if you have experience with them you know to check to make sure even if someone tells you its unloaded.

“ Assistant director Dave Halls unwittingly handed Baldwin a loaded weapon and told him it was safe to use in the moments before the actor fatally shot Halyna Hutchins ”

He was told it was safe to use

Film sets are supposed to have procedures and protocols in place to avoid incidents like this.

It would be interesting to hear Abzurd's comments on this, as he likely has knowledge in this area.

I saw an article about this earlier (don't have the link handy, might track it down later). Basically, movies normally have all kinds of special rules - no live ammo on set - and special crew members who are specifically in charge of gun safety. This production was already cutting all sorts of corners and pushing crew to work unsafely, though, so ...

Baldwin said he didn't pull the trigger. I guess it went off by itself. Does that prove the leftist claim that guns are not inanimate objects?
