so is it really beneficial to cancel everything versus putting it in context? i think placing things in context is a fair compromise. people can choose whether or not they want to view it. not like we can drag dr. seuss out of his grave and demand he change it.

As usual Noldor misrepresents the story in his headline.

SIX and only six books are not going to be published any more. They contain racial stereotypes such as Asians wearing conical hats.

In once instance the text beneath the Asian characters describes them as 'helpers who all wear their eyes at a slant' from 'countries no one can spell,'"

What context would be appropriate?

My parents bought a dvd collection of old Looney Tunes and Whoopi Goldberg provides a disclaimer at the beginning of each one.

Interesting choice, considering that she voiced one of the problematic hyenas in Lion King...

The right wing is full of whiners looking for a culture war. No one else gives a sh*t.

It's not "being cancelled" if the publishing house themselves decides that the imagery and language isn't acceptable and they're not going to publish them anymore.

If no one gave a sh*t, they wouldn’t be canceling things left and right.

Deciding not to publish the books is the same as Canceling them and Dr Suess. Over insignificant drawings that didn’t offend anybody.

"More than five million print copies of Dr. Seuss's books were sold in the U.S. ...(Of the six removed) the top seller last year was 'If I Ran the Zoo,' with about 7,000 copies sold."

It was Capitalism all along!

Nothing was cancelled here dumbass. The publisher stopped printing some of the lowest selling books in the collection of his works and considering modern sensibilities in terms of the content.

Cry harder about books you didn’t read. Or do what Fox News got people to do, and send a bunch of money to the publisher you’re accusing of cancelling things. No one ever accused you people of having any brains to rattle in your f*cking skulls.

Why exactly is this so upsetting? Are these your favorites?

Because no longer publishing your lowest selling books that contain racially insensitive material is virtually the same thing as burning books while shouting "heil Biden" and it's clearly more nefarious than charging the capital trying to overturn valid election results and looking to lynch the vice president.

To be fair, the article does mention these books being banned by a school district in Virginia...

Ok, CD, but not sure how that’s being “fair”. 1 school banning a book does not equal cancelling anything or anyone as this thread tries to present.
But if that’s being “fair” to you, then we should definitely be calling out as canceling every author the conservatives and religious zealots have banned or tried to ban over the years.
Like, every book that has a character who belongs to the LGBTQ community? Or even better, books that contain magical themes because they’re satanic!

My point was that the article was about more than just the publisher stopping publication on the books. Postal made a comment about 'burning books while shouting 'heil Biden', which I took as a claim that nobody outside of the publisher is trying to ban these books...

I'm fine with calling out Conservatives and/or Religious Zealots attempting to ban books they don't approve of.

I've often posted on YT in support of not banning books- - no matter who was calling for the bans.

Still a very far cry from cancel culture. Which, btw, is a stupid term.

I’m not calling out your record here or anywhere else. I haven’t been active on here in like ten years so I really don’t know what anybody on here has said or done.
My post was comparing how conservatives love to throw out the cancel culture accusations when they’ve been responsible for trying to cancel people to the point of bailing or institutionalizing them.

Well look at that. A conservative and a liberal agreeing on something. We got agreement from both sides of the as*hole

Funny how that works sometimes. It sure beats common practice on YT of applying labels and vilifying people based on the label rather than the content of the discussion...
